Henry The Younger Of Stolberg
Count Henry the Younger of Stolberg (4 January 1467 in Stolberg – 16 December 1508 in Cologne), was Lord of Wernigerode and stadtholder of Friesland. Life Henry the Younger of Stolberg was the son of Count Henry IX of Stolberg and his first wife Matilda, the daughter of the Count Volrad of Mansfeld. He had a twin brother Bodo VIII. His father send his brother Bodo to southern Germany in his early childhood. Henry the Younger, on the other hand, was participating in government business from 1489 onwards. In 1497, when he was 30 years old, his father transferred the reign of the County of Stolberg and the County of Wernigerode to him. Bodo was unhappy and in 1499, their father decided that Bodo and Henry should rule jointly for the next four years. Henry the Younger had been in the service of Elector Frederick III of Saxony since 1491. The House of Stolberg is the name of an old and large German dynasty of the former Holy Roman Empire's Uradel, high aristocracy (''German nobility#Hochadel, Hoher Adel''). Members of the family held the title of ''Prince of the Holy Roman Empire, Fürst'' and ''Imperial Count, Graf''. George the Bearded (Meissen, 27 August 1471 – Dresden, 17 April 1539) was Duke of Saxony from 1500 to 1539 known for his opposition to the Reformation. While the Ernestine line embraced Lutheranism, the Albertines (headed by George) were reluctant to do so. Despite George's efforts to avoid a succession by a Lutheran upon his death in 1539, he could not prevent it from happening. is a town (sometimes itself called 'Harz' in historical references) and a former municipality in the district of Mansfeld-Südharz, in the German State of Saxony-Anhalt, Germany. The County of Wernigerode (german: Grafschaft Wernigerode) was a state of the Holy Roman Empire which arose in the Harzgau region of the former Duchy of Saxony, at the northern foot of the Harz mountain range. The comital residence was at Wernigerode, now part of Saxony-Anhalt, Germany. The county was ruled by a branch of the House of Stolberg from 1429 until its mediatization to the Kingdom of Prussia in 1806.
