A Face In The Crowd (film)
''A Face in the Crowd'' is a 1957 American satirical drama film directed by Elia Kazan and starring Andy Griffith (in his film debut), Patricia Neal, and Walter Matthau. The screenplay by Budd Schulberg is based on his short story "Your Arkansas Traveler" from the 1953 collection ''Some Faces in the Crowd''. The story centers on Larry "Lonesome" Rhodes, a drifter who is discovered by the producer (Neal) of a small-market radio program in rural northeast Arkansas, and who rises to great fame and influence on national television. The character was inspired by Schulberg's acquaintance with Will Rogers Jr. The successes of Arthur Godfrey and Tennessee Ernie Ford were also acknowledged in the screenplay. The film launched Griffith into stardom, but it received mixed reviews on its release. Subsequent reappraisals have been kinder to the film. Henry Sharp (cinematographer)
Henry Sharp was an American cinematographer who worked in Hollywood from the 1920s through the 1950s. He was known for his work with actor Douglas Fairbanks. Biography Sharp was born in Los Angeles, California, to Thomas Sharp and Charlotte Bailey. He began working as a cinematographer by 1920, and by 1930, had become Douglas Fairbanks' cameraman of choice. He accompanied the star on a trip around the world, filming their travels. He survived a plane crash in 1935 in Missouri, although he was left in the hospital for three months. After he recovered, he married his nurse, Jean Thayer. Graham Sharp
Henry Graham Sharp (19 December 1917 – 2 January 1995) was a British figure skater. In 1939, he won both the European Figure Skating Championships and the World Figure Skating Championships. Before that, he had won three consecutive silver medals at Worlds and Europeans. He competed at the 1936 Winter Olympics, where he placed fifth, and at the 1948 Winter Olympics, where he placed seventh. Life and career Born in Bournemouth, Sharp began training as a skater at the age of 13 at a rink owned by his father in Bournemouth. At the age of 15 he competed for the first time in the British Figure Skating Championships (BFSC), winning silver in 1933. He competed in the BFSC eight more times, winning gold each time in 1934, 1935, 1936, 1937, 1938, 1939, 1946, and 1948.
