Henry Paget, 2nd Baron Paget
Henry Paget, Baron Paget (c. 1537 – 28 December 1568) was an English MP and peer. Life Henry Paget was the eldest son of William Paget, Baron Paget of Beaudesert, Staffordshire and his wife Anne Preston, the daughter of Henry Preston. He was born around 1537. He was knighted in 1553, and succeeded to the title at the death of his father in 1563. Paget was elected as a Member of Parliament (MP) for Arundel in 1555 and for Lichfield in 1559 and 1563. In 1567, Paget married Catherine Knyvet, daughter of Henry Knyvet. Paget and Catherine had a daughter, Elizabeth, who was four months old when Paget died on 28 December 1568. He was buried at West Drayton. Since Paget died without male issue, it has generally been thought that the title passed immediately to his brother, Thomas, as 3rd Baron Paget. Henry Paget, 1st Earl of Uxbridge (13 January 166330 August 1743), of Beaudesert, Staffordshire, and West Drayton, Middlesex, was a British landowner and Tory politician who sat in the English and British House of Commons from 1695 until 1712 when he was raised to the peerage as Baron Burton as one of Harley's Dozen. He was a Hanoverian Tory, supportive of the Hanoverian Succession.Colley p.62 Personal life Paget was the son of William Paget, 6th Baron Paget, and his first wife Frances Pierrepont, daughter of Hon. Henry Bayly-Paget, 1st Earl of Uxbridge (18 June 1744 – 13 March 1812), known as Henry Bayly until 1769 and as Lord Paget between 1769 and 1784, was a British peer. Early life Born Henry Bayly, Uxbridge was the eldest son of Sir Nicholas Bayly, 2nd Baronet, of Plas Newydd in Anglesey, by his wife Caroline Paget, daughter of Brigadier-General Thomas Paget and a great-granddaughter of William Paget, 5th Baron Paget. He succeeded as 10th Baron Paget in 1769 on the death of his mother's second cousin, Henry Paget, 2nd Earl of Uxbridge. Henry Paget, 2nd Earl of Uxbridge (22 January 1719 – 16 November 1769) was a British nobleman, styled Lord Paget from 1742 to 1743. The only son of Thomas Paget, Lord Paget, and his wife Lady Elizabeth, he was commissioned a cornet in the 1st (Royal) Regiment of Dragoons on 23 April 1742, shortly after the death of his father. He succeeded his grandfather as Earl of Uxbridge in 1743. He was appointed a deputy lieutenant for Staffordshire on 7 July 1757, and died, unmarried, on 16 November 1769. He was buried on 24 November at West Drayton. Henry William Paget, 1st Marquess of Anglesey (17 May 1768 – 29 April 1854), styled Lord Paget between 1784 and 1812 and known as the Earl of Uxbridge between 1812 and 1815, was a British Army officer and politician. After serving as a member of parliament for Carnarvon and then for Milborne Port, he took part in the Flanders Campaign and then commanded the cavalry for Sir John Moore's army in Spain during the Peninsular War; his cavalry showed distinct superiority over their French counterparts at the Battle of Sahagún and at the Battle of Benavente, where he defeated the elite chasseurs of the French Imperial Guard. During the Hundred Days he led the charge of the heavy cavalry against Comte d'Erlon's column at the Battle of Waterloo. At the end of the battle, he lost part of one leg to a cannonball. Henry William George Paget, 3rd Marquess of Anglesey (9 December 1821 – 30 January 1880), styled Lord Paget until 1854 and Earl of Uxbridge between 1854 and 1869, was a British peer and Liberal politician. Background Anglesey was the only son of Henry Paget, 2nd Marquess of Anglesey, by his first wife Eleanora, daughter of Colonel John Campbell. Military career He was appointed as Captain of the Burton-on-Trent Troop of the part-time Staffordshire Yeomanry on 26 March 1839. The following year he obtained permission for the troop to be renamed the Anglesey Troop. On 21 May 1841 he purchased a commission in the Grenadier Guards as Ensign & Lieutenant.
