Henry Harris (actor)
Henry Harris (c. 1634 – 1704) was an English stage actor and theatre manager. Initially a painter he was a founder member of the new Duke's Company in 1660 following the Restoration which established itself at the old Salisbury Court Theatre before moving to the new Lincoln's Inn Fields Theatre shortly afterwards. Due to his background Harris may have been a set designer and painter during his early years with the company. However, by 1661 he was acting, and his first recorded role was in William Davenant's '' The Siege of Rhodes'' that summer. He quickly established himself as the second actor in the troupe after Thomas Betterton. In 1663 he was briefly arrested, likely due to an attempt to change allegiance to the rival King's Company which was illegal at the time. Henry Silton Harris (11 April 1926 – 13 March 2007) was a British-Canadian philosopher, having been a Distinguished Research Professor at York University. He is best known for his work on the intellectual development of G. W. F. Hegel and for his writings and commentary upon ''The Phenomenology of Spirit''. Biography Born in Brighton, England, Harris received a BA (1949) in classics and philosophy from University of Oxford, and an MA (1952) and PhD (1954) at University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. He taught at the University of Illinois and Ohio State University and, in 1962, joined York University where he was eventually made Distinguish Research Professor in 1984. He was Glendon College's Academic Dean from 1967 to 1969, elected a Fellow in Royal Society of Canada in 1988 and was also given an Honorary Doctor of Letters from York in 2001. Henry Ellis Harris (January 21, 1902 – December 29, 1977), commonly known as H.E. Harris, was an American philatelist and stamp dealer who through his company, H.E. Harris & Co., popularized philately for many Americans, especially children. Biography Harris was born in Atlanta in 1902. At age 14, while living in Washington, D. C., he began his stamp career. He seized the opportunity to begin a mail-order stamp business when ''The Washington Post'' offered free classified ads to teenagers. Henry Hiram "Smoky" Harris (April 28, 1905 – December 31, 1975) was a Canadian professional ice hockey player. Harris played in the Prairie Hockey League (PHL), Pacific Coast Hockey League (PCHL) and the National Hockey League (NHL). Harris played 32 games for the Boston Bruins during the 1930–31 season, which had several years earlier employed his older brother Wilfred. He was born in Kenora, Ontario. Playing career Harris first played senior-level hockey in 1927–28 for the Regina Capitals of the Prairie Hockey League. After one season, Harris transferred to the Seattle Eskimos of the Pacific Coast Hockey League. Harris played two seasons for the Eskimos before being traded to the Boston Bruins of the NHL. However, he did not join Boston right away as Boston loaned him back to Seattle for the rest of the 1929–30 season. Henry Vere Poulett-Harris (22 April 1865 – 7 March 1933) was an Australian cricket player, runner, footballer, gold prospector and gold mine owner. Vere Poulett-Harris played five first-class cricket matches for the Tasmania and Western Australia cricket teams between 1883 and 1899. One early news report described him as a "sterling cricketer and footballer" whilst another described him as a "sterling batsman and good field." Vere Poulett-Harris' father was Richard Deodatus Poulett-Harris, an educationalist, priest, the founder of the Masonic Lodge in Tasmania and the co-founder of the University of Tasmania. Amongst his other activities, Richard was passionate about cricket and, in 1882, was elected a trustee of the Southern Tasmanian Cricket Association.
