Henry Barnes (cricketer)
Henry Marshall Barnes (27 June 1869 — 8 June 1946) was an Irish first-class cricketer and British Army officer. The son of the cricketer and soldier Christopher Barnes, he was born in Ireland at Newbridge and was educated in England at Marlborough College. From Marlborough he pursued a career in the British Army, graduating from the Royal Military Academy, Woolwich as a second lieutenant in February 1889. He was promoted to lieutenant in February 1892, with Barnes being seconded as an adjutant of a Militia Artillery in February 1899, being made a supernumerary captain upon this appointment. He gained the full rank in February 1904. The following year he was promoted to major, before retiring from active service in September 1909. Barnes played first-class cricket in 1907, making a single appearance against Derbyshire at Lord's Lord's Cricket Ground, commonly known as Lord's, is a cricket venue in St John's Wood, London. Henry A. Barnes (December 16, 1906 – September 1968) was an American traffic engineer and commissioner who served in many cities, including Flint, Michigan; Denver, Colorado; Baltimore, Maryland; and New York City. Barnes was responsible for many innovations in traffic engineering, including synchronized traffic signals, actuated traffic signals (signals whose timing varies based on the presence of automobiles and pedestrians), and bus lanes. Barnes Dance In traffic signal operation, a Barnes Dance or Barnes Shuffle is a period during which all motor vehicle traffic is stopped and pedestrians given exclusive right of way, allowing them to cross in every direction at the same time. Henry Barnes, 2nd Baron Gorell
Major Henry Gorell Barnes, 2nd Baron Gorell, DSO, (21 January 1882 – 16 January 1917) was a barrister and an officer in the Territorial Force. He served on the Western Front in World War I where he was mortally wounded. Education and legal career He was born in 1882, the eldest son of John Barnes, 1st Baron Gorell. After an education at Winchester, Trinity College, Oxford (MA 1908), and Harvard, he was called to the Bar by the Inner Temple in 1906. He worked as a secretary to his father when he was on the Bench, and later as secretary of the Royal Commission on Divorce. He succeeded his father in the peerage in 1913. Henry Winslow Barnes
Henry Winslow Barnes (November 2, 1818September 1, 1873) was an American farmer, Democratic politician, and Wisconsin pioneer. He was a member of the Wisconsin State Assembly, representing Lafayette County in the 1857, 1870, and 1871 sessions. Biography Henry W. Barnes was born in Bedford, New Hampshire, in November 1818. His father died when he was just seven years old. He came to the Wisconsin Territory in 1835, when he was just 17. He initially resided at Darlington, and was elected to the Lafayette County board of supervisors from Darlington in 1849. In the early 1850s he moved to the neighboring town of Wiota, Wisconsin, and was quickly elected chairman of the town board, serving from 1851 to 1859. During the same years, he was elected to six consecutive terms representing Wiota on the county board—from 1853 through 1858. He was also chosen as chairman of the county board in 1855.
