Henrique De Senna Fernandes
Henrique de Senna Fernandes (October 15, 1923 – October 4, 2010) was a Macanese people, Macanese writer. Biography Henrique de Senna Fernandes was born and died in Macau. One of 11 siblings of an old Macanese family, who settled in Macau over 250 years ago, he studied law at the University of Coimbra before becoming a writer. His work, written in Portuguese, evokes the atmosphere of the 1930s, 1940s and 1950s in the territory. Often focusing on the lives of characters of mixed racial origins, like the author himself, his work represents a unique viewpoint on the evolution of the territory in the twentieth century. In the period before the Carnation Revolution, Revolution of April 25, 1974, he was a member of the Macau Legislative Council, which in 1972/1973 was renamed the Macau Legislative Assembly. ''Público'' (; English: ''Public'') is a Portuguese language, Portuguese daily national newspaper of record published in Lisbon, Portugal. History and profile ''Público'' was first published on 5 March 1990. The paper was founded by Sonae and is owned by the Sonae group. The Bewitching Braid (novel)
''The Bewitching Braid'' () is a 1993 novel by Henrique de Senna Fernandes, of Macau. It was written originally in Portuguese and published by . The English translation of this novel was published by Hong Kong University Press in 2004, with translation by David Brookshaw. The Chinese translation, ''Dà Biànzi de Yòuhuò'' (), translated by Yu Hui Yuan, was published by the (澳門文化司署) in 1996. The novel was adapted into a 1996 film, ''The Bewitching Braid''. According to Brookshaw, the novel was "politically correct" as the Handover of Macau was imminent. Brookshaw compared the plot to that of '' Escrava Isaura''. Plot The novel is about a relationship between a Macanese man and a Chinese woman. The story is set in the 1930s. ''The Bewitching Braid'' (, ) is a 1996 film directed by Cai Yuanyuan (蔡元元) and produced by Cai An'an (蔡安安 aka "Choi Unun"). It was the first film produced in Macau. It is an adaptation of a novel written by Henrique de Senna Fernandes. Plot The film is about a relationship between a Macanese man and a Chinese woman. The story is set in the 1930s. Creation and conception The Cai brothers hoped to make a film that showcased the territory. The production company was jointly owned by the two brothers. ''Nam Van'' is a collection of short stories by the Macanese author Henrique de Senna Fernandes. It was first published in Macau in 1978.
