Cody Westman
Cody Westman is a Canadian filmmaker/musician from Smithers, British Columbia now residing in St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador. He is known for his filmmaking as well as his solo music career and his work with rock band, Man The Animal. He owns and operates his production company Cats Eye Cinema INC which focuses on documentaries, commercials, corporate video, music videos and short films. Career Filmmaking Westman's first film project was a documentary about the first Irish Pub in Newfoundland entitled ''That Little Room: The Story of Erin's Pub'', which told the history of Newfoundland bands Sons of Erin, Shanneyganock and Great Big Sea. The film premiered on NTV, was shown on all Air Canada flights in 2014 and was screened at the Nickel Film Festival in St. John's, NL and the Kerry Film Festival in Killarney, Ireland. Justin Simms (born 1973) is a Newfoundland and Labrador filmmaker, born in Labrador City and now based in St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador, St. John's. His first feature film was ''Down to the Dirt'', an adaptation of Joel Hynes's novel that Simms directed and co-wrote, which was named best Atlantic feature and best screenplay at the Atlantic Film Festival. His most recent feature film adaptation is ''Away From Everywhere'' (2016), based on the Chad Pelley novel of the same name, which had its world premiere at the 2016 Cannes Film Festival as part of Telefilm Canada’s Perspectives Canada program. Hot Docs Audience Awards
The Hot Docs Audience Awards are annual film awards, presented by the Hot Docs Canadian International Documentary Festival to the most popular films as voted by festival audiences. There are currently two awards presented: the Hot Docs Audience Award, presented since 2001 to the most popular film overall regardless of nationality, and the Rogers Audience Award, presented since 2017 to the most popular Canadian film. The Rogers Audience Award comes with a CA$50,000 prize from the Rogers Group of Funds, and is considered the most important award at the festival.
