Werner Heisenberg
Werner Karl Heisenberg (; ; 5 December 1901 – 1 February 1976) was a German theoretical physicist, one of the main pioneers of the theory of quantum mechanics and a principal scientist in the German nuclear program during World War II. He published his Umdeutung paper, ''Umdeutung'' paper in 1925, a major reinterpretation of old quantum theory. In the subsequent series of papers with Max Born and Pascual Jordan, during the same year, his matrix mechanics, matrix formulation of quantum mechanics was substantially elaborated. He is known for the uncertainty principle, which he published in 1927. Heisenberg was awarded the 1932 Nobel Prize in Physics "for the creation of quantum mechanics". Heisenberg also made contributions to the theories of the Fluid dynamics, hydrodynamics of turbulent flows, the atomic nucleus, ferromagnetism, cosmic rays, and subatomic particles. Benjamin Heisenberg
Benjamin Heisenberg (born 9 June 1974) is a German film director and screenwriter. He has directed sixteen films since 1995. His film '' Schläfer'' was screened in the Un Certain Regard section at the 2005 Cannes Film Festival. His 2010 film, '' The Robber'', was nominated for the Golden Bear at the 60th Berlin International Film Festival. He is the grandson of Nobel Prize-winning physicist Werner Heisenberg, via his father Martin Heisenberg. He is co-editor and co-publisher of the German film magazine ''Revolver''. Early life Benjamin Heisenberg was born in Tübingen, West Germany to Martin Heisenberg and Apollonia, Countess of Eulenburg. His father was professor of neurobiology at the University of Würzburg, and Benjamin grew up in small village near there. In 1993, he studied at the academy of fine arts in Munich. Carl-Philipp Heisenberg
Carl-Philipp Heisenberg (born 1968) is a German developmental biologist specializing in embryology, cell biology, and biophysics. He is the grandson of the physicist Werner Heisenberg and nephew of biologist Martin Heisenberg. He was born in Munich, Germany. After graduating in Biology in Munich in 1992, he carried out his PhD work with Christiane Nüsslein-Volhard in Tübingen in 1997. After a postdoc with Stephen Wilson at University College London, he started his research group in 2001 at the Max Planck Institute for Cell Biology and Genetics in Dresden as an Emmy Noether junior professor. Since 2010, he is a professor at the Institute of Science and Technology Austria. Heisenberg was elected member of the German National Academy of Sciences Leopoldina in 2015 and of the European Molecular Biology Organisation in 2016. Jochen Heisenberg
Jochen Heisenberg (born 16 May 1939) is a German physicist specializing in nuclear physics, and Professor Emeritus of Physics at the University of New Hampshire. He is the son of Nobel Prize-winning physicist Werner Heisenberg, who was a co-founder of the quantum mechanics, and who, in particular, introduced the uncertainty principle. He is the brother of German neurobiologist and geneticist Martin Heisenberg and the uncle of film director Benjamin Heisenberg. Kaspar Ernst August Heisenberg
Kaspar Ernst August Heisenberg (November13, 1869November22, 1930) was a German Byzantinist. His son was Werner Heisenberg. Heisenberg came from a Westphalian family of craftsmen. He was the son of Wilhelm August Heisenberg (1831–1912), a locksmith (blacksmith) in and from Osnabrück, and Anna Maria Unnewehr (1835–1919). Education and career Heisenberg attended the public school and the council gymnasium in Osnabrück and studied philosophy and other subjects in Marburg from 1888 and from 1889 in Munich, where he turned to classical philology and especially medieval Greek under the influence of Karl Krumbacher. In 1890 and 1891 he also studied in Leipzig. During his studies in Marburg, he became a member of what is now the Marburg fraternity Rheinfranken. Martin Heisenberg
Martin Heisenberg (born 7 August 1940) is a German neurobiologist and geneticist. Before his retirement in 2008, he held the professorial chair for genetics and neurobiology at the Bio Centre of the University of Würzburg. Since then, he continues his research with a senior professorship at the Rudolf Virchow Center of the University of Würzburg. Heisenberg studied chemistry and molecular biology in Munich, Tübingen and Pasadena. In 1975 he became Professor of genetics and neurobiology at the University of Würzburg. Heisenberg's work has focused on the neurogenetics of ''Drosophila'' (the fruit fly), with the aim of investigating the genetic foundations of the ''Drosophila'' brain by studying the effect of genetic mutations on brain function.
