Heathcliff (comic Strip)
''Heathcliff'' is an American comic strip created by George Gately in 1973, featuring the title character, an orange cat. Now written and drawn by Gately's nephew, Peter Gallagher, it is distributed to over 1,000 newspapers by Creators Syndicate, which took over the comic from McNaught Syndicate in 1988. The strip and its title character show some resemblance to the more famous ''Garfield''; however, Heathcliff was published five years before the first Garfield strip. The strip is usually presented in single-panel gag frames on weekdays. On Sundays, however, the strip is expanded to multiple panels (usually 6–8) and titled ''Sunday with Heathcliff''. A regular feature in the Sunday strips is ''Kitty Korner'', where unusual cats in the real world are described. George Gately
George Gately Gallagher (December 21, 1928 – September 30, 2001), better known as George Gately, was an American cartoonist, best known as the creator of the '' Heathcliff'' comic strip. Born in Queens Village, Queens, Gately came from a family of comics lovers. His father was an amateur doodler, and his elder brother John was also a cartoonist. He grew up and went to school in Bergenfield, New Jersey. Gately studied art at Pratt Institute. After graduating, he worked at an advertising agency for 11 years, but commercial art gave him little satisfaction. Seeing the success of his elder brother, George decided to enter the cartoon field. In 1957, he sold his first comic. He dropped his last name of Gallagher to avoid confusion with his brother. ''Heathcliff'' ( ''Heathcliff and the Catillac Cats'', known as ''Les Entrechats'' in French) is a children's animated television series that debuted on September 3, 1984. Produced by DIC Entertainment, DIC Audiovisuel (and later DIC Enterprises), it was the second animated series based on the ''Heathcliff (comics), Heathcliff'' comic strip (after Ruby-Spears' ''Heathcliff (1980 TV series), Heathcliff'' from 1980). 65 half-hour episodes aired in first-run syndication in the fall of 1984, followed by a second season of 21 episodes in 1985. ''Marmaduke'' is a newspaper comic strip revolving around the Winslow family and their Great Dane, Marmaduke, drawn by Brad Anderson (cartoonist), Brad Anderson from November 15, 1954 to 2015. Publication history The strip was created by writer Phil Leeming and artist Brad Anderson, and sold to the John F. Dille Co. (later known as the National Newspaper Syndicate) in 1954. Anderson said he drew on Laurel and Hardy routines for his ideas. Jack-o-lantern
A jack-o'-lantern (or jack o'lantern) is a carved lantern, most commonly made from a pumpkin, or formerly a root vegetable such as a mangelwurzel, rutabaga or turnip. Jack-o'-lanterns are associated with the Halloween holiday. Franklin Wendell Welker (born March 12, 1946) is an American actor who specializes in voice acting. He began his career in the 1960s, and held around 850 film, television, and video game credits as of 2020, making him one of the most prolific voice actors in history.
