Hearts And Knives
''Hearts and Knives'' is the fourth studio album by the British synth-pop band Visage. It was released on 20 May 2013 and was the band's first album of new material in 29 years. Background In January 2013, Visage announced their new line-up to consist of vocalist and founding member Steve Strange, bassist Steve Barnacle (who had worked with the band on their 1984 album '' Beat Boy''), Robin Simon (former guitarist in Ultravox and Magazine) and Lauren Duvall on vocals. The band's official website confirmed that former Visage/Magazine keyboardist Dave Formula and former Simple Minds keyboardist Mick MacNeil have also contributed to the album. Visage (band)
Visage were a British New wave music, new wave pop band formed in London in 1978. The band became closely linked to the burgeoning New Romanticism, New Romantic fashion movement of the early 1980s, and are best known for their hit "Fade to Grey (Visage song), Fade to Grey" which was released in late 1980. In the UK, the band achieved two Top 20 albums (''Visage (Visage album), Visage'' and ''The Anvil (album), The Anvil'') and five Top 30 singles before the commercial failure of their third album (''Beat Boy'') led to their breakup in 1985. The band saw various line-up changes over the years, all fronted by vocalist Steve Strange, who resurrected the band name in the 2000s. Dave Formula
Dave Formula (born David Tomlinson 11 August 1946, Whalley Range, Manchester in England), is an English keyboardist and film-soundtrack composer from Manchester, who played with the post-punk bands Magazine and Visage during the end of the 1970s and the beginning of the 1980s and in the "world music" band The Angel Brothers. Biography Early years and St. Louis Union Formula lived his early youth in Whalley Range, Manchester. He worked under the name of David Tomlinson and achieved some success back in the mid-sixties with the R&B blues/soul band St. Louis Union, including appearances on ''Top of the Pops'' Thank Your Lucky Stars and in the film '' The Ghost Goes Gear'' (also featuring The Spencer Davis Group). Robin Simon
Robert "Robin" Simon (born 12 July 1956) is a British guitarist who was a member of Ultravox, Magazine and Visage. Biography Early career Simon began playing guitar in a Halifax-based band, Kandahar, in the early to mid-1970s. He also met and played with future Ultravox member Billy Currie at that time. He moved to London in 1975 and later joined the punk pop band Ians Radio (later called Neo) in 1976. Neo were one of the bands on the early London punk live scene. Rough Trade Records is an independent record label based in London, England. It was formed in 1976 by Geoff Travis, who had opened a record store off Ladbroke Grove. ''Visage'' is the debut studio album by the British synth-pop band Visage. It was recorded at Genetic Sound Studios in Reading, Berkshire and released in November 1980 by Polydor Records. Release ''Visage'' was released in November 1980. It reached No. 13 in the UK and was certified Silver by the British Phonographic Industry in March 1981. " Fade to Grey" was released as a single and became a hit, reaching No. 8 on the UK Singles Chart and Top 10 positions in Europe, including No. 1 in Germany and Switzerland. "Fade to Grey" is a song by British synth-pop band Visage, released in November 1980 as the second single from their debut album, '' Visage'' (1980), on Polydor Records. The song was the band's most successful single. It entered the singles charts in late 1980, peaking at no. 8 in the UK Singles Chart and reaching no. 1 in West Germany and Switzerland. Steve Strange was on lead vocals; the French lyrics were spoken by Rusty Egan's then girlfriend Brigitte Arendt. The accompanying music video for the song became one of the first videoclips that Kevin Godley and Lol Creme directed, before they became known for their works with the Police, Duran Duran and Herbie Hancock. Magazine (band)
Magazine were a British Rock music, rock band formed in 1977 in Manchester in England by singer Howard Devoto and guitarist John McGeoch. After leaving the Punk rock, punk group Buzzcocks in early 1977, Devoto decided to create a more progressive and less "traditional" rock band. The original lineup of Magazine was composed of Devoto, McGeoch, Barry Adamson on bass, Bob Dickinson on keyboards and Martin Jackson on drums. Their debut album, ''Real Life (Magazine album), Real Life'' (1978), was critically acclaimed and was one of the first post-punk albums. After releasing two other albums, ''Secondhand Daylight'' and ''The Correct Use of Soap'', McGeoch left the band in 1980 to join Siouxsie and the Banshees.
