Heart Cheshire And North East Wales
Heart Cheshire and North East Wales (formerly Marcher Sound and previously MFM 103.4) was an Independent Local Radio station broadcasting to north east Wales and Cheshire from its Mold Road studios in Gwersyllt, Wrexham, also shared with Gold (British radio network), Gold and Heart Wirral. The station was last owned and operated by Global Radio who purchased the previous owner, GCap Media, the group formed by the merger of GWR Group and Capital Radio Group. GWR purchased Marcher Radio Group in October 2000, although the latter remains as the official licensee of the station, which now forms part of Capital North West and Wales. The station was broadcast from the Wrexham-Rhos Relay, situated just above Moss Valley, Wrexham, The Moss near Wrexham, and although it officially broadcast to the Wrexham and Chester areas, it could also be heard in parts of Merseyside and Shropshire. Smooth Radio (2014)
Smooth Radio is a network of local radio stations broadcasting on FM and DAB in the United Kingdom. It no longer broadcasts any outlets on AM since the last outlet on medium wave ceased at 1:00pm on Friday 28th February 2025. Smooth Radio previously featured a soft adult contemporary radio format but has introduced more upbeat music since 2023. Launched in March 2014, it replaced the national Smooth Radio that had launched in 2010 on FM and DAB, and most outlets of Gold on AM. Each FM station broadcasts localised breakfast with networked shows simulcast from London at all other times. Four of the seven FM stations, and the former AM stations, are owned and operated by Global, with the remaining three FM licences owned by Communicorp UK and run as a franchise. According to RAJAR, the network broadcasts to a combined weekly audience of 6.6 million with a listening share of 4.1% as of September 2024. Smooth Wales
Smooth Wales is an Independent Local Radio station broadcasting from Cardiff for South Wales and North Wales, as well as parts of Cheshire in England. All programming content is now shared to both areas. There are no longer any stations within the Smooth radio network broadcasting on AM, the last ever remaining one in North Wales and Cheshire closed at 1:00PM on Friday 28th February 2025. In later years, it was the only former regional Smooth AM station to have its own content, a local four-hour weekday show, as all other Smooth AM stations, as added to the network in 2014, carried the London network FM content, opting out only for local news and advertising breaks. Wrexham And Chester Gold
Gold North Wales and Cheshire (originally Marcher Gold and later Classic Gold Marcher) was a British Independent Local Radio station broadcasting to Wrexham, Chester, Flintshire and some of the Wirral, and was part of the Gold radio network. It is the "sister" station to local FM station, Marcher Sound, launched by Marcher Radio Group in 1989. After a period of sales and takeovers which led to Gold being operated by a separate company to its FM sister station, both are now owned by Global Radio. It is broadcast from Mold Road, Gwersyllt, Wrexham, although most programming comes from London. Gold North Wales and Cheshire was replaced by Smooth Radio in March 2014. Moel-y-Parc Transmitting Station
The Moel-y-Parc transmitting station is situated on Moel y Parc, a hill in north-east Wales at the northern end of the Clwydian range, close to the town of Caerwys and several miles (kilometres) north-east of Denbigh. It was built in 1962/1963 by the ITA to bring 405-line VHF ITV television to North Wales and it has been on the air since 1963. Its original height of made it the tallest structure in North Wales and it stands on land that is itself about above sea level. In 1965, VHF television transmissions from the BBC commenced from the site. With the addition of the UHF aerials in 1969, the mast height increased to high. Heart Dunstable (formerly 97.6 Chiltern FM) was an Independent Local Radio station based in Chiltern Road in Dunstable, Bedfordshire. Shotton, Flintshire
Shotton is a town and community in Flintshire, Wales, within the Deeside conurbation along the River Dee, joined with Connah's Quay, near the border with England. It is located 5 miles (8 km) west of Chester and can be reached by road from the A548. In the 2011 census, Shotton had a population of 6,663.
