Heading For Change
Heading for Change (, CACH) is a political coalition in the Democratic Republic of the Congo between Félix Tshisekedi's Union for Democracy and Social Progress (UDPS) and Vital Kamerhe's Union for the Congolese Nation (UNC). It was formed in response to the aftermath of multi-day negotiations between seven major opposition parties in Geneva, including the UDPS and UNC. When, on 11 November 2018, the negotiations made the unexpected choice of Martin Fayulu as their candidate and the formation of the Lamuka ("wake") coalition, rank and file supporters of the UDPS began violent protests in Limete, the party's headquarters, with some even threatening to burn down the hq building, in protest of Fayulu's nomination. Similar protests by UNC supporters broke out in the Stade des Martyrs. Félix Antoine Tshisekedi Tshilombo (; born 13 June 1963) is a Congolese politician who has served as the fifth president of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, since 2019. He was the leader of the Union for Democracy and Social Progress (Democratic Republic of the Congo), Union for Democracy and Social Progress (UDPS), the DRC's oldest and largest party, succeeding his late father Étienne Tshisekedi in that role, a three-time Prime Minister of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Prime Minister of Zaire and opposition leader during the reign of Mobutu Sese Seko. Vital Kamerhe
Vital Kamerhe Lwa Kanyiginyi Nkingi (born 4 March 1959) is a Congolese economist and politician, currently serving as Deputy Prime Minister of Economy and the leader of the Union for the Congolese Nation (UNC) party. He served as the President of the National Assembly of the Democratic Republic of the Congo from 2006 to 2009. After resigning from that office, he went into the opposition and founded the UNC. He ran in the 2011 presidential election. He supported Félix Tshisekedi as a coalition partner in the 2018 presidential election, and became chief of staff when Tshisekedi took office. In 2020, Kamerhe was charged with and convicted of the embezzlement of US$50 million. The Congo Research Group described his arrest as unprecedented in recent DRC history. Union For The Congolese Nation
The Union for the Congolese Nation () is a political party in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. It was founded in 2010 by Vital Kamerhe, who was at the time a close ally of the former president Joseph Kabila. Kamerhe had previously served as the Chief of Staff to Kabila and as the Speaker of the National Assembly. The UNC's political position is generally considered to be center-left. The party's platform emphasizes national unity, economic development, and social justice. It advocates for policies that promote private sector growth, job creation, and poverty reduction, as well as greater government transparency and accountability. Limete
Limete is one of the 24 communes that are the administrative divisions of Kinshasa, the capital city of the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Location Limete is located south of the Pool Malebo between the mouths of the Funa and Ndjili rivers. The eastern boundary is the Ndjili going south down to Boulevard Lumumba (). The western boundary from the north follows the Funa, Boulevard Lumumba, and Avenue de L'Université down to Avenue Kikwit. From there the southern boundary rejoins Boulevard Lumumba to the east via Avenue Sefu and the Limete Tower interchange. Martin Madidi Fayulu (born 21 November 1956) is a Congolese politician and businessman. He is the leader of the Engagement for Citizenship and Development party. On 11 November 2018, he was chosen by seven opposition leaders to be their joint presidential candidate in the 2018 Democratic Republic of the Congo general election.
