"He Went to Paris" is a song written and performed by American singer-songwriter Jimmy Buffett. It was first released on his 1973 album ''A White Sport Coat and a Pink Crustacean'' and was his fourth and final single from that album. Although it never placed on the charts, it became one of his most popular songs, having appeared on several of his greatest hits compilations. Buffett was inspired to write the song after meeting musician Eddie Balchowsky, a one-armed veteran of the Spanish Civil War he met while playing in Chicago. On the live album '' You Had to Be There'', Buffett mentions this as a favorite song he wrote. The song appears on '' Songs You Know By Heart'', a greatest hits compilation that includes Buffett's concert favorites ranging from 1973 to 1979. ''A White Sport Coat and a Pink Crustacean'' is the third studio album by American singer-songwriter Jimmy Buffett. It was released on June 4, 1973, as his first album for Dunhill. The title of the album is a play on the country song " A White Sport Coat and a Pink Carnation" by Marty Robbins, and it contains several of what later became Buffett's most popular songs. The album was recorded at outlaw country singer Tompall Glaser's recording studio in Nashville, Tennessee. It marks the first reference to Buffett's backup band as "The Coral Reefer Band" and is the first album on which long-time Coral Reefers Michael Utley and Greg "Fingers" Taylor play. Douglas Anderson Supernaw (September 26, 1960November 13, 2020) was an American country music artist. After several years performing as a local musician throughout the state of Texas, he signed with BNA Records in 1993. Waylon Arnold Jennings (June 15, 1937 – February 13, 2002) was an American singer, songwriter, musician, and actor. He is considered one of the pioneers of the Outlaw country, outlaw movement in country music. Jennings started playing guitar at age eight and performed at fourteen on KVOW radio, after which he formed his first band, the Texas Longhorns. Jennings left high school at age sixteen, determined to become a musician, and worked as a performer and DJ on KVOW, KDAV, KYTI, KBZO (AM), KLLL, in Coolidge, Arizona, and Phoenix, Arizona, Phoenix. The parenthetical "s" in the subtitle alludes to the status at the time of "Margaritaville" as Buffett's single large chart hit. Despite its 1985 release date, the album only includes songs from 1973 to 1979. Aside from 1976's '' Havaña Daydreamin''', this compilation includes at least one song from each of Buffett's ABC Records/MCA Records albums released between 1973 and 1979. Commercial performance The album reached No. 100 on the ''Billboard'' 200.
