Hans Snook
Hans Roger Snook (born 1948) is a British businessman, best known for his time as the founder (with Graham Howe) and chief executive of British mobile phone company Orange. Early life Snook was born in 1948 to a German mother and a British father in Dissen, Lower Saxony, Germany. The family emigrated to Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada in 1957, where Snook later attended the University of British Columbia. Career He then began a career in hotel management, which led him to Calgary for six years. In 1983, he set off on a round-the-world trip, which was cut short when he arrived in Hong Kong and became chief executive of a wireless paging business (which subsequently became part of the Hutchison Whampoa Group). In 1992 Snook was despatched to the UK where he closed Hutchison's Rabbit CT2 phone network and directed efforts to developing the UK's fourth mobile phone network. Graham Howe (businessman)
Graham Edward Howe (born 23 May 1961) is a British entrepreneur and businessman who founded Orange with Hans Snook. Early life He was born in St Albans. He went to St Albans Grammar School for Boys (now known since 1975 as the comprehensive Verulam School), and later attended the University of Birmingham where he obtained a Bachelor of Commerce. Career Graham began his career at Touche Ross (now Deloitte LLP) working in the Manchester audit department. He became ACA qualified before moving down to London to work for Touche Ross Consulting. In the late 80s he moved to Hong Kong where he met Hans Snook whilst working at Hutchison Whampoa. Hans Snook had the ideas for Orange. Carphone Warehouse is a mobile phone retailer based in London, United Kingdom. In August 2014 the company became a subsidiary of Currys plc (previously named "Dixons Carphone"), which was formed by the merger of its former parent Carphone Warehouse Group with Dixons Retail.
