Hanley is a town in Division No. 11 in Saskatchewan, Canada. It is located 65 km south of Saskatoon. The town's population in 2021 was 540. It was named after Hanley, Staffordshire, England, by early founders. It is also the seat for the Rural Municipality of Rosedale No. 283. History Hanley was founded in 1902 and incorporated as a town in 1906. It is a typical small agricultural community in the grain-growing region of Southern Saskatchewan. Thousands of settlers came into the area in the early 20th century after land speculators had procured the lands. Early settlers came from the UK, Eastern Canada, America, and Scandinavia. A large community of Norwegian descendants still makes up a significant percentage of the area's residents and there is also a substantial Mennonite-German community. Hanley is a former provincial electoral division for the Legislative Assembly of the province of Saskatchewan, Canada, centred on the town of Hanley. This district was created before the 2nd Saskatchewan general election in 1908. The riding was dissolved and combined with the Arm River, Rosthern, Kinistino, Saskatoon Buena Vista, Saskatoon Eastview, Saskatoon Sutherland and Biggar districts before the 18th Saskatchewan general election in 1975. Hanley Castle is a village and civil parish in Worcestershire, England, between the towns of Malvern and Upton upon Severn and a short distance from the River Severn. It lies in the administrative area of Malvern Hills District, and is part of the informal region known as ''The Malverns''. Remnant of the moat Hanley Castle was a Norman castle that stood to the south of the present-day site of the village of Hanley Castle, which lies 2 km north of Upton-upon-Severn, in the county of Worcestershire, England, United Kingdom. (). 13th-century castle The castle was built by King John between 1206 and 1212. In 1216, it was given by Henry III to Gilbert de Clare, 4th Earl of Hertford and it remained in the powerful de Clare family until 1314. After that date there was a succession of owners until the castle was surrendered with the manor to the Crown in 1487. The castle gradually fell into decay and was mostly demolished due to its ruined state during the reign of Henry VIII. The masonry of the only remaining tower is said to have been removed in 1795 to repair the bridge at Upton upon Severn. No traces of the castle building now remain.
