Kajagoogoo ( ) were an English Pop music, pop band. They are best known for their 1983 hit single "Too Shy", which reached No. 1 on the UK Singles Chart, and the top 10 in numerous other countries. History Beginnings (1978–1982) Formed in Leighton Buzzard, Bedfordshire, in 1978, the band were originally known as Art Nouveau, a four-piece avant-garde group, with Nick Beggs on bass guitar, Steve Askew on lead guitar, Stuart Croxford Neale on keyboards, and Jez Strode on drums. In 1981 Art Nouveau recorded and self-released a single, "Fear Machine/Animal Instincts", which sold a few hundred copies and allegedly got airtime on John Peel's show. The B-side of Art Nouveau's single was re-recorded for the B-side of the "Ooh to Be Ah" 7-inch single. ''White Feathers'' is the debut studio album by the English new wave band Kajagoogoo, released on 18 April 1983 by EMI Records. The album contains their most successful single, "Too Shy", a UK No. 1 hit in February 1983, as well as two other UK Top 20 hits: "Ooh to Be Ah" and "Hang on Now". It is the band's only album with Limahl as the lead vocalist. Background ''White Feathers'' was produced by Nick Rhodes, of Duran Duran, and Colin Thurston, who was Duran Duran's producer at the time. The sole exception is the self-titled instrumental track "Kajagoogoo", produced by Tim Palmer (record producer), Tim Palmer and the band. Nick Rhodes (born Nicholas James Bates; 8 June 1962) is an English keyboardist and producer, best known as a founding member and the keyboardist of the band Duran Duran. He has also been the only constant member of the group since their 1978 inception. Colin Thurston (b. 1947 – 15 January 2007) was an English recording engineer and record producer, known for his work with David Bowie, Duran Duran and The Human League. Early life Born in Singapore in 1947, Thurston was a guitarist in several bands and his first work in music was as a jingle writer. His first project was a commercial for Scotch-Brite. Thurston moved to England, and worked at first for an advertising agency in London. Thurston received requests from writers at the agency to produce demos for their work. It was through one of these writers that he learned of an engineering job at Southern Music Studio. He later did engineering work at a variety of London-area studios, eventually meeting producer Tony Visconti at a studio known at the time as Good Earth Studios.
