Alan Patrick Hamlin (born 25 March 1951) is a British economist and political theorist. Hamlin attended Bristol Grammar School 1962-69 and earned a bachelor's degree in economics at the University of Wales, followed by a DPhil at the University of York. Hamlin was appointed to a Lectureship in Economics at the University of Southampton in 1976 and was promoted to a Professorship in Economics at Southampton where he was also served as Head of the Department of Economics, Dean of Social Sciences, and Dean of Law Arts and Social Sciences. Hamlin was a Visiting Fellow of All Souls College, Oxford, 1989-90 and held visiting appointments in America and in Australia. Erin Mullady Hamlin (born 19 November 1986) is a four-time Olympian and the first female American luger to medal at any Winter Olympics, as well as the first American of either gender to medal in luge singles competition and the first non-European woman to take an Olympic medal in luge. Ebenezer Hamlin (1844 – 4 June 1900) was a member of parliament in New Zealand, and an independent conservative. Early life and family Hamlin was born in Orua on the Manukau Harbour to the Rev James Hamlin, a missionary who had arrived in New Zealand in 1823 with the Church Missionary Society. He was the ninth and youngest son of the reverend. He fought in the New Zealand Wars in the 1860s, and was a major in the Territorial Army. On 28 April 1868, Hamlin married Sarah Grace Barriball, the daughter of Charles Barriball of Waiuku, at her father's house near Waiuku (Barriball Road in Waiuku commemorates the location of the family's land). Cyrus Hamlin (January 5, 1811 – August 8, 1900) was an American Congregational missionary, co-founder of Robert College, and the father of A. D. F. Hamlin. Biography Hamlin was born in Waterford, Maine and grew up on his family's farm estate. At sixteen, he entered an apprenticeship as a silversmith and jeweler in Portland, Maine before deciding to enter the ministry. He first attended Bridgton Academy before heading to college. He graduated from Bowdoin College in 1834 and from Bangor Theological Seminary in 1837.
