Hamlet (Tchaikovsky)
Shakespeare's ''Hamlet'' was the inspiration for two works by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky: the overture-fantasia ''Hamlet'', Op. 67, and incidental music for the play, Op. 67a. Overture-Fantasia, Op. 67 Tchaikovsky wrote the ''Hamlet'' overture-fantasia, Op. 67, between June and 19 October 1888, overlapping the scoring of his Fifth Symphony. The idea of a ''Hamlet'' overture had first occurred to Tchaikovsky in 1876, as outlined in his plans in a letter to his brother Modest. At that time, he conceived it in three parts: : 1. Elsinore and Hamlet, up to the appearance of his father's ghost : 2. Polonius (scherzando) and Ophelia (adagio), and : 3. Hamlet after the appearance of the ghost. His death and Fortinbras. However, by 1888 he had altered these notions. The actor Lucien Guitry asked him to write some incidental music for a production of Shakespeare's play, to which Tchaikovsky agreed. The planned performance was cancelled, but Tchaikovsky decided to finish what he had ...

''Hamlet'' is an opera in two acts by Australian composer Brett Dean, with an English libretto by Matthew Jocelyn, which is based on Shakespeare's play of the same name. The libretto uses "as little as 20 per cent" of the play's text and also takes inspiration from the "first quarto" as it "offers a different view on certain moments". The opera premiered at Glyndebourne Festival on 11 June 2017, directed by Neil Armfield and conducted by Vladimir Jurowski. A month later on 6 July, the production was live streamed on Glyndebourne's website free of charge. The production was then presented in 2018 at the Adelaide Festival with Clayton, Gilfry, and Begley from the Glyndebourne cast and Cheryl Barker as Gertrude. The Metropolitan Opera in New York City mounted the Glyndebourne production in May 2022 with several of the original cast members, conducted by Australian conductor Nicholas Carter in his Met debut. Amleto
''Amleto'' () is an Italian opera in four acts by Franco Faccio set to a libretto by Arrigo Boito, based on Shakespeare's play ''Hamlet''. It premiered on 30 May 1865 at the Teatro Carlo Felice in Genoa and was revised for a La Scala production given on 12 February 1871. The collaboration and friendship between librettist and composer was to last throughout Faccio's lifetime. In addition (as musicologist William Ashbrook states): "''Amleto'' marks an effort of two prominent members of the Scapigliatura (a late Romantic reform movement in northern Italy in the 1860s and 70s) to renew the tradition of Italian opera." After the La Scala revival in 1871, the opera disappeared for almost 130 years. However, in recent years, copies of the score and libretto have reappeared and conductor Anthony Barrese created a critical edition which was presented in a fully staged version by Opera Southwest in Albuquerque, New Mexico, and by Baltimore Concert Opera in concert form in Baltimore, ...

Hamlet (band)
Hamlet is a Spanish five-piece heavy metal music, metal band from Madrid, formed in 1987. They are signed to Maldito Records and have released twelve albums, their most recent being ''Inmortal'' in 2025. They are considered the pioneers of alternative metal in Spain with their albums ''Sanatorio de Muñecos'' (1994) and ''Revolución 12.111'' (1996). History Hamlet's history goes back to the late 1980s, when the five members decided to form a band using the name of one of the best-known works of writer William Shakespeare. After several concerts, they recorded a mini LP titled "Hamlet" with a style influenced by the era of hard rock. They continued to use the same style in the first official recording of the group, but with some changes (including formation). ''Peligroso (Hamlet album), Peligroso'' was released in 1992 by DRO. The group was not very happy with the final work and this is the reason why the record is widely unknown. 1993: ''Sanatorio de Muñecos'' ("The True Beg ...
