Hamilton's Bawn
Hamiltonsbawn or Hamilton's Bawn is a village in County Armagh, Northern Ireland, five miles (8 km) east of Armagh. It lies within the civil parish of Mullabrack and the Armagh, Banbridge and Craigavon District Council area. It had a population of 895 people (343 households) in the 2011 census. Transport Hamiltonsbawn railway station opened on 25 August 1864 and was closed on 1 February 1933. Amenities The local primary school, Hamiltonsbawn Primary School, is located on the Annareagh Road. Pennsylvania connection The township of Hamiltonban in Adams County, Pennsylvania, was founded by a relative of John Hamilton in the mid-late 18th century, and named after Hamilton's Bawn. Armagh City And District Council
Armagh City and District Council was a district council in County Armagh in Northern Ireland. It merged with Banbridge District Council and Craigavon Borough Council in May 2015 under local government reorganisation in Northern Ireland to become Armagh, Banbridge and Craigavon District Council. The Council area included the city of Armagh, as well as the surrounding area. City status was officially conferred in 1995. Armagh has a long reputation as an administrative centre and the headquarters of the Southern Education and Library Board and the Southern Health and Social Services Board were located in the city. Civil Parishes In Ireland
Civil parishes () are units of territory in the island of Ireland that have their origins in old Gaelic territorial divisions. They were adopted by the Anglo-Norman Lordship of Ireland and then by the Elizabethan Kingdom of Ireland, and were formalised as land divisions at the time of the Plantations of Ireland. They no longer correspond to the boundaries of Roman Catholic or Church of Ireland parishes, which are generally larger. Their use as administrative units was gradually replaced by Poor_law_union#Ireland, Poor Law Divisions in the 19th century, although they were not formally abolished. Mullaghbrack, Mullabrack or Mullaghbrac () is a small civil parish, townland and village in County Armagh, Northern Ireland. The village of Mullaghbrack is on the road between Markethill and Hamiltonsbawn, just north of Gosford Forest Park. It had a population of 54 people (24 households) in the 2011 census, down from 75 people as of the 2001 census. The Newry and Armagh Railway, initially the Newry and Enniskillen Railway, was opened in 1864 and ran until 1879.
