Henry Haller
Henry Haller (January 10, 1923 – November 7, 2020) was a Swiss-American chef who served as Executive Chef of the White House from 1966 to 1987. Haller's death was announced on November 9, 2020. Early life Haller was born in Altdorf, Switzerland, in 1923. He was of French descent on his mother's side and German descent on his father's. His father was manager of a factory and loved food, and as a young boy Haller loved to cook. His mother planted a large kitchen garden, and as a child Haller would fetch fresh vegetables from the garden and watch as she cooked them. It was his father who encouraged him to be a chef. Haller recalls that when he was 14 years old, his father said, "Henry, why don't you be a chef? You can travel all over the world. And you will never have to worry about a job. René Daniel Haller (born 18 December 1933 in Lenzburg, Switzerland), is a Swiss naturalist trained in horticulture, landscaping and tropical agronomy. Since the 1970s, he has been known for his commitment to environmental restoration, such as the restoration of a limestone quarry wasteland in Mombasa, Kenya, into the nature park and wildlife sanctuary named Haller Park. Nicolaus Ferdinand Haller (21 January 1805 in Hamburg – 10 October 1876 in Hamburg) was a jurist, a senator and the First Mayor of Hamburg, and the head of state from 1863 to 1864; 1866 to 1867; 1870 to 1873. Family The Haller family was one of the 50 Jewish families expelled from Vienna, whom the Great Elector Frederick William of Brandenburg (reign 1640–1688) had granted asylum in his realm. Kevin Wade Haller (born December 5, 1970) is a Canadian former professional ice hockey defenceman who played 13 seasons in the National Hockey League (NHL) with seven teams between 1990 and 2002. He won the Stanley Cup in 1993 while with the Montreal Canadiens. Internationally Haller played for the Canadian national junior team, winning a gold medal at the 1990 World Junior Championships. Józef Haller (''de Hallenburg''; 13 August 1873 – 4 June 1960) was a Polish lieutenant general and legionary in the Polish Legions during the First World War. He was a harcmistrz (the highest Scouting instructor rank in Poland), the president of the Polish Scouting and Guiding Association (ZHP), and a political and social activist.
