Hadley (, ) is a town in Hampshire County, Massachusetts, United States. The population was 5,325 at the 2020 census. It is part of the Springfield, Massachusetts Metropolitan Statistical Area. The area around the Hampshire and Mountain Farms Malls along Route 9 is a major shopping destination for the surrounding communities. History Early Hadley was first settled in 1659 and was officially incorporated in 1661. The former Norwottuck was renamed for Hadleigh, Suffolk. Its settlers were primarily a discontented group of families from the Puritan colonies of Hartford and Wethersfield, Connecticut, who petitioned to start a new colony up north after some controversy over doctrine in the local church. The settlement was led by John Russell. The first settler inside of Hadley was Nathaniel Dickinson, who surveyed the streets of what is now Hadley, Hatfield, and Amherst. Hadley is an unincorporated community in Mercer County, Pennsylvania, United States. The community is situated along Pennsylvania Route 358, north of Mercer. Hadley has a post office, with ZIP code 16130. History David Hadley came to Perry Township in 1843. While he was a shoemaker, with his family took such an active part in clearing his lands and building mills that when the Lake Shore Railroad was built across the township and a station erected on land he donated, the locality was named Hadley in honor of his worthy life and character. The Hadley post office was established in May 1868, with David Pattison as postmaster, and several years later the town was platted. A barrel factory was the important early industry, also established in 1868. Hadley Presbyterian Church was organized in 1875, and its building dedicated the following year. Hadley–Apennine
Hadley–Apennine is a region on the near side of Earth's Moon that served as the landing site for the American Apollo 15 mission, the fourth manned landing on the Moon and the first of the " J-missions", in July 1971. The site is located on the eastern edge of Mare Imbrium on a lava plain known as Palus Putredinis. Hadley–Apennine is bordered by the Montes Apenninus (often referred to as "Apennine Front"), a mountain range, and Hadley Rille, a meandering channel, on the east and west, respectively. Data obtained from the composition of soil samples collected on Apollo 15 show that most (about 90%) of the samples from the Apennine Front are brown-glass breccias, and approximately 60–70% obtained from the mare surface are basalt. Hadley Pottery is an American-based pottery and stoneware company started by Mary Alice Hadley and her husband George E. Hadley in 1945. It is located on Story Avenue in the Butchertown neighborhood of Louisville, Kentucky. History Hadley Pottery had its inception in 1939, when Mary Alice Hadley made a custom set of dishware for a cruiser she and her husband George Hadley had on the Ohio River. She created her own design with a nautical flag motif and painted it on unfired blanks that she fired at the Louisville Pottery Co. When friends saw the design of her dishes, they were interested in purchasing dishes of their own, so Hadley created a few more at the Louisville Pottery Co. The Hadley cell, named after George Hadley, is a global-scale tropical atmospheric circulation that features air rising near the equator, flowing poleward at a height of 10 to 15 kilometers above the earth's surface, descending in the subtropics, and then returning equatorward near the surface. This circulation creates the trade winds, tropical rain-belts and hurricanes, subtropical deserts and the jet streams. A Hadley cell's relatively low-altitude overturning circulation has air sinking at roughly 30 degrees latitude after traveling from near the equator. Mechanism The driving force of atmospheric circulation is the uneven distribution of solar heating across the earth, which is greatest near the equator and least at the poles. The atmospheric circulation transports energy polewards, thus reducing the equator-to-pole temperature gradient. The program premiered on 16 November 2010. The program was broadcast live across the country from Sky News' Sydney studio in Macquarie Park and aired Wednesday evenings between 8:15 and 9:00 pm. The program's format consisted of a brief introduction by Hadley followed by an interview with a current federal politician. This was followed by the segment 'thumbs up or thumbs down' where Hadley and one of his guests, usually a journalist, posed pre-written questions to each other where they either agreed or disagreed.
