Gwar
Gwar, often stylized as GWAR, is an American heavy metal band formed in Richmond, Virginia, in 1984, composed of and operated by a frequently rotating line-up of musicians, artists, and filmmakers collectively known as Slave Pit Inc. Since the death of frontman Dave Brockie in 2014, the collective has continued recording and performing without any of its founding artists or musicians. Identified by their distinctively grotesque costumes, Gwar's core thematic and visual concept revolves around an elaborate science fiction-themed mythology which portrays the band members as barbaric medieval Nordic, mythological, biblical or interplanetary warriors, a narrative which serves as the basis for all of the band's albums, live shows and media. With over-the-top violent, sexual, and scatological humor typically incorporating social and political satire, Gwar has attracted both acclaim and controversy for its music and stage shows, the latter of which notoriously showcase enactments ... This Toilet Earth
''This Toilet Earth'' is the fourth album released by heavy metal band Gwar. Released on March 29, 1994, this album was to be one of their oddest and most bittersweet albums. It was the first Gwar album to be censored (the second was '' We Kill Everything'', which comes in both censored and uncensored versions), due to their gain in popularity as a result of MTV exposure. The music and artwork is almost cartoonish when compared to the previous albums, and the instrumentation had expanded to include horns (in the opener, "Saddam a Go-Go") that reinforce the goofiness. An instrumental version of the song "Jack the World" was also featured in the ''Beavis and Butt-Head'' video game for the Sega Genesis and Super Nintendo Entertainment System. Skulhedface ''Skulhedface'' was a movie released to coincide with this album. Within the storyline, the enemy is now Skulhedface, an alien queen who was deformed in a Synnite Warrior raid on her planet centuries before. In retaliation, she tr ... The New Dark Ages
''The New Dark Ages'' is the fifteenth album by thrash metal band Gwar. It was released on June 3, 2022 through the band's own label Slave Pit Inc., making it their first record to not be released through Metal Blade Records since ''Beyond Hell'' in 2006. It also marked the band's first album to feature bassist Casey Orr since ''Bloody Pit of Horror'' and the last album to feature guitarist Pustulus Maximus (Brent Purgason) before his departure from the band in 2023. Since its release, the album has received positive reviews for the social commentary featured on its lyrics and Michael Bishop's vocal performance. It was promoted by a tour and the comic book ''Gwar in the Duoverse of Absurdity'' released by Z2 Comics. Reception Sam Law of ''Kerrang!'' rated this album a 3 out of 5, stating that "rather than dulling the overall mood, the focus on seriousness in some parts emphasises the silliness of others" and declaring that Gwar "remain the band in the universe". The album is also the first to feature Michael Bishop since 1999's '' We Kill Everything'', portraying the newest character, lead singer Blöthar the Berserker, as opposed to his role as the original Beefcake the Mighty. It is the band's last album to feature Jamison Land as Beefcake before his departure in 2019 as well as the last to be released through Metal Blade. Overview The album's description reads: "The Blood of Gods, is nothing less than a sacred text chronicling the rise of humanity against their makers, and the massive battle between Gwar and the forces of all that is uptight and wrong with the world (War on GWAR). Along the way, the band challenges the sins of their great mistake, from p ... [...More Info...]       [...Related Items...]     OR:     [Wikipedia]   [Google]   [Baidu]   |

The album also saw the return of their former bassist Casey Orr, even though he would later part ways with the band yet again. Lust in Space debuted at #96 on the Billboard top 200 Charts and according to Blabbermouth it was Gwar's highest position reached for the debut of an album. The cover is an homage/parody of the Kiss album ''Love Gun''. Gwar then seeks the help of Zog, an old Scumdog commander who trained Oderus, to help them. However, it turns out that he's become nothing but old and homeless. Beyond Hell
''Beyond Hell'' is the tenth studio album by Gwar. Released on August 29, 2006, by DRT Entertainment, the album was originally announced through the band's official website on February 23, 2006. Unlike the band's output since 2001, it is a concept album and a rock opera, centering on Gwar's journey to Hell as they escape from the attacking armies of humanity. Overview The concept of this album is the closest thing to a rock opera that Gwar has done since '' RagNaRok''. The concept revolves around the band's journey to hell and their epic battle with the devil. The album follows the sound Gwar set with '' Violence Has Arrived'' and perfected with '' War Party''. The album had previously been tentatively titled ''Go To Hell!'' and ''Greetings From Hell!''. ''Beyond Hell'' is one of the two albums by Gwar to have no other lead vocalist than Oderus Urungus (the other is '' Violence Has Arrived''). DRT Entertainment
DRT Entertainment was a New York City based independent record label founded in March 2004 by Derek Shulman, Ron Urban, and Theodore "Ted" Green. The label is defunct. The label advertised itself as an "artist friendly hard rock music company for bands with a touring fan base." The company was distributed by Universal Music Group's Fontana Distribution. DRT was also distributed by Universal Music Canada and a variety of companies in the rest of the world including Soulfood in Germany, Shock Records in Australia and JVC Records in Japan. DRT had one subsidiary label, Brass Tacks Records. It was a vanity label founded by the Street Dogs. In 2005, it released Alucard Music's "35th Anniversary" editions of many CDs by Gentle Giant, Shulman's former band. (Thirty-five years after the debut album.) The label closed in 2009. War Party (album)
''War Party'' is the ninth studio album by the heavy metal band Gwar. It was released on October 26, 2004, being the band's first album in DRT Entertainment. In addition, this also marks the first studio album with Corey Smoot as Flattus Maximus and the first of two albums to feature Todd Evans as Beefcake The Mighty. The album was released to positive reviews. Overview After '' Violence Has Arrived'', Gwar switched labels from Metal Blade to DRT Entertainment. ''War Party'' was released on October 26, 2004, and continues the decidedly heavier focus reintroduced in ''Violence Has Arrived''. ''War Party'' is the most political Gwar album since '' America Must Be Destroyed'', tackling such subject matter as the 2004 American election and the war in Iraq in such songs as "Bring Back the Bomb", "Krosstika", "War Party", "The Reaganator" and "You Can't Kill Terror". Dave Brockie said "...basically Gwar pledges support to the powers who support the war, and we make such a right-wing ... Violence Has Arrived
''Violence Has Arrived'' is the eighth studio album by the band Gwar. It was released on November 6, 2001, through Metal Blade Records. According to an interview with Dave Brockie, it was originally supposed to be released on September 11, 2001, but Metal Blade would not release it until November. According to Slave Pit Inc., it was not finished. According to other official sources, they did not even start recording the album until July, and the Dave Brockie Experience had a tour in September. Overview ''Violence Has Arrived'' re-attains the brutal focus of the band's earlier albums. It has more of a thrash metal sound than any of their previous albums. It is similar to ''Scumdogs of the Universe'', in that Dave Brockie was the dominant voice of the band again, and the theme is centered on generalized carnage. Gwar takes on more "medieval" themes this time, such as torture ("The Wheel") and conjures up some truly ugly imagery in songs such as "Licksore", "Beauteous Rot", "Immort ... We Kill Everything
''We Kill Everything'' is the seventh album by Gwar, released on April 6, 1999, through Metal Blade Records. Story The album's story differs slightly from the version told in "It's Sleazy" and on tour. The first three tracks on the album do not follow one particular story, and focus on Gwar's generally decadent ways. The fourth, "A Short History of the End of the World (Part VII (The Final Chapter (abbr.)))", begins (though an instrumental, it is explained that it refers to Gwar fighting the Master, the incident that led to their exile) the story, which continues through the title track. This story chronicles Gwar's relationship with their Master, and the aftermath of their defiance. While Gwar was exiled to Earth, mystic Scumdog Scroda Moon went to search for them, only to be stranded on the Moon with a tablet (that he himself carved, according to the movie and concerts) that supposedly chronicles all of time's events from the beginning to the end. After landing on Earth, Gwar ... [...More Info...]       [...Related Items...]     OR:     [Wikipedia]   [Google]   [Baidu]   |
