Blowout (well Drilling)
A blowout is the uncontrolled release of crude oil and/or natural gas from an oil well or gas well after pressure control systems have failed.'All About Blowout', R. Westergaard, Norwegian Oil Review, 1987 Modern wells have blowout preventers intended to prevent such an occurrence. An accidental spark during a blowout can lead to a catastrophic oil or gas fire. Prior to the advent of pressure control equipment in the 1920s, the uncontrolled release of oil and gas from a well while drilling was common and was known as an oil gusher, gusher or wild well. History Gushers were an icon of oil exploration during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. During that era, the simple drilling techniques, such as cable-tool drilling, and the lack of blowout preventers meant that drillers could not control high-pressure reservoirs. When these high-pressure zones were breached, the oil or natural gas would travel up the well at a high rate, forcing out the drill string and creating a ...

Crush 'n' Gusher
Crush 'N' Gusher is a water coaster in Disney's Typhoon Lagoon on the Walt Disney World Resort property. This ride was the first water coaster to be built for a Disney water park. Themed as an abandoned and dilapidated fruit process center, guests may slide down three different slides: the "Banana Blaster", "Coconut Crusher", or "Pineapple Plunger". These slides range from 410 to in length, but all send riders to a plunge into the "Hideaway Bay" pool. Development Specifics pertaining to mark Crush 'N' Gusher were announced by Disney officials by December 2004. As Patrick Brennan of Walt Disney Imagineering and lead creative designer of the attraction explained, the Crush 'N' Gusher would utilize "some of the latest water ride innovations in the industry today." He also explained, "When completed, Crush 'N' Gusher at Disney's Typhoon Lagoon Water Park will be the only water coaster thrill ride of its kind in Central Florida". The Crush 'N' Gusher opened officially on March 15, 2 ...

Lakeview Gusher
The Lakeview Gusher was an eruption of hydrocarbons from a pressurized oil well in the Midway-Sunset Oil Field in Kern County, California, in 1910. It created the largest accidental oil spill in history, lasting 18 months and releasing of crude oil. Midway-Sunset was one of the largest oil reserves in the United States. When drilling commenced, the Lakeview Oil Company expected natural gas and a small amount of oil. Instead, there was a large blowout which overloaded storage tanks. The geyser released more than of crude oil, far more than any other single leak on land or water. Its site is located about a half-mile (800 m) east of the Taft– Maricopa Highway, California Route 33, marked by a Caltrans guide sign and a bronze plaque designated as California Historical Landmark number 485. Background The Lakeview Oil Company started drilling at its Number One well on 1 January 1909. Initially only natural gas was found. As work continued the company partnered with ...
