Gurcharan Singh (boxer)
Gurcharan Singh (born 10 April 1977) is an Indian professional boxer born in Rurewal, Punjab, and currently settled in Philadelphia, US. He competed in the light heavyweight division at the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta and the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney. Although he lost in the first round at the 1996 Summer Olympics, Singh excelled his boxing performance at the Sydney games by defeating South Korea's Ki Soo-Choi, and South Africa's Danie Venter in the first two rounds. During the quarterfinal match, Singh made an early lead against Ukraine's Andriy Fedchuk; however, he failed to evade a punch in the last round until Fedchuk drew a sudden death point to end the match. As a result, the judges made a decision to break a deadlock and earned a score of 60–42 to the Ukrainian boxer; therefore, Singh did not advance into the semi-final match. Gurcharan Singh (cricketer)
Gurcharan Singh (born 13 June 1935) is an Indian cricket coach and former first-class cricketer. He coached 12 international and over 100 first-class cricketers, and is the second cricket coach to be awarded the Dronacharya Award. He was also awarded the fourth highest civilian award Padma Shri by the Indian government. Life and career Born in Lahore on 13 June 1935, Singh came to Patiala as a refugee during the Partition of India in 1947. He started playing cricket under the guidance of Maharaja of Patiala Yadavindra Singh. Singh was a right-handed batsman and right-arm off break bowler who appeared in 37 first-class matches. The teams he represented include Patiala, Patiala and Eastern Punjab States Union, Southern Punjab and Railways. Singh obtained a coaching diploma from National Institute of Sports in Patiala and became a coach there. He then became head coach at the Sports Authority of India centre in New Delhi. Gurcharan Singh is an Indian painter, known for his figurative paintings. He was born in 1949 at Patiala, in the Indian state of Punjab and studied at Government College of Arts and Crafts, Chandigarh. He has had several and group exhibitions in India and abroad and his works were exhibited at the International Biennale in Tokyo in 1984, at the Contemporary Art Show in Seoul in 1986 and the Festival of Contemporary Art in London in 1988. The Lalit Kala Akademi, New Delhi, National Gallery of Modern Art, New Delhi and India House, Paris have his on display at their premises. His signature paintings are based on the people from financially compromised classes; ''The Red Light in Black and White'' and ''Les Miserables'' are two of his notable works. Colonel (RET) Gurcharan Singh Sekhon ( Punjabi: , born 1937) is a retired Singaporean army officer. Nicknamed "Father of the Engineers", he is a pioneer of the Singapore Armed Forces, credited with setting up the Singapore Combat Engineers. He served as the 6th Commandant of the Singapore Command and Staff College from 1979–1981, and thereafter as the Assistant Chief of General Staff (Operations) of the Singapore Army, an appointment today held by an officer of one-star rank. In July 1967, he became a graduate of Singapore's first batch of officer cadets. Panth Rattan Shiri Gurcharan Singh Tohra (24 September 1924 – 1 April 2004) was a president of Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC), a Sikh body in charge of controlling Gurdwara (Sikh places of worship). He died of a heart attack in New Delhi on 1 April 2004 at the age of 79. He remained the head of the SGPC for a record 27 years, and was one of the most influential and controversial Sikh leaders of the 20th century. Indian President A. P. J. Rear admiral is a two-star flag officer rank in the Indian Navy. It is the third-highest active rank in the Indian Navy. Rear admiral ranks above the one-star rank of commodore and below the three-star rank of vice admiral.
