Group Of Eighteen
The Group of Eighteen was a series of meetings of the Dutch political parties Christian Historical Union (CHU), the Anti-Revolutionary Party (ARP), and the Catholic People's Party (KVP) to explore the possibility of cooperation and ultimately forming a single Christian people's party. The first meeting took place on 24 April 1967 and the last on 22 September 1969. The discussions contributed to the formation of the Christian Democratic Appeal (CDA) in 1980. Christian Historical Union
The Christian Historical Union (, CHU) was a Protestant Christian democratic political party in the Netherlands. The CHU is one of the predecessors of the Christian Democratic Appeal (CDA), into which it merged in September 1980. History 1879–1908: Predecessor parties An important inspiration for the CHU was Guillaume Groen van Prinsterer (1801–1876), who coined the terms "anti-revolutionary" and "Christian-historical". In 1879, the Anti-Revolutionary Party (ARP) was founded as a Protestant mass party by Abraham Kuyper. Unlike previous anti-revolutionary politicians such as Groen van Prinsterer, Kuyper was convinced God's will could be translated to politics. Anti-Revolutionary Party
The Anti-Revolutionary Party (, ARP) was a Protestant conservative and Christian democratic political party in the Netherlands. The party was founded in 1879 by Abraham Kuyper, a neo-Calvinist theologian and minister who served as Prime Minister between 1901 and 1905. In 1980 the party merged with the Catholic People's Party (KVP) and the Christian Historical Union (CHU) to form the Christian Democratic Appeal (CDA). Catholic People's Party
The Catholic People's Party (, KVP) was a Roman Catholicism in the Netherlands, Catholic Christian democracy, Christian democratic list of political parties in the Netherlands, political party in the Netherlands. The party was founded in 1945 as a continuation of the interwar Roman Catholic State Party, which was in turn a successor of the General League of Roman Catholic Electoral Associations. Christian Democratic Appeal
The Christian Democratic Appeal ( , CDA) is a Christian democratic and conservative political party in the Netherlands. Formed as a federation in 1975 by the Catholic People's Party, the Anti-Revolutionary Party, and the Christian Historical Union, it first participated in a general election in 1977 and unified into a single party in 1980. The party dominated Dutch politics from 1977 to 1994, becoming the largest party all but twice, with leaders Dries van Agt and Ruud Lubbers serving as prime minister. The party faced a major defeat in the 1994 general election, after which the first two cabinets without its participation were formed. Willem Aantjes
Willem "Wim" Aantjes (; 16 January 1923 – 22 October 2015) was a Dutch politician of the Christian Democratic Appeal (CDA). A jurist by occupation, Aantjes was elected to the House of Representatives (Netherlands), House of Representatives on 26 May 1959 after the 1959 Dutch general election, general election of 1959. Hans Andries de Boer (born 30 May 1937) is a former Dutch politician of the defunct Anti-Revolutionary Party (ARP) and later the Christian Democratic Appeal (CDA) party and trade association executive. Life De Boer attended a Lyceum in Velsen from May 1949 until June 1955. De Boer worked as a farmworker in Velsen from May 1953 until July 1960. Hendrik Van Riessen
Hendrik Van Riessen (17 August 1911, in Bloemendaal, North Holland – 28 February 2000, in Bloemendaal) was one of the second generation of reformational philosophy, reformational philosophers arising from the Vrije Universiteit, Free University (VU) in Amsterdam, after the first generation of Herman Dooyeweerd and D. H. Th. Vollenhoven. Other second generationers were: K. J. Popma, S. U. Zuidema and J. P. A. Mekkes. From 1951 he was professor at the Delft University of Technology, Institute of Technology of Delft in the Netherlands. He held graduate degrees in engineering and in philosophy. He studied philosophy at the Free University in Amsterdam under D. H. Th. Vollenhoven. He was an active participant in the Underground Movement during the Nazi occupation. Pieter Jacobus "Koos" Verdam (15 January 1915 – 11 March 1998) was a Dutch politician of the defunct Anti-Revolutionary Party (ARP) now merged into the Christian Democratic Appeal (CDA). The reformed Verdam was a professor for Roman law and international civil law at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam and from 1959 to 1960 its Rector Magnificus. Petrus Josephus Mattheus "Piet" Aalberse Sr. (27 March 1871 – 5 July 1948) was a Dutch politician of the General League of Roman Catholic Electoral Associations, later the Roman Catholic State Party (RKSP) and later co-founder of the Catholic People's Party (KVP) and jurist.
