Jerry Grote (basketball)
Jerry C. Grote (born December 28, 1940) is an American retired basketball player. He played one season for the Los Angeles Lakers of the National Basketball Association (NBA). College career Grote, a 6'4 guard from Cantwell High School in Montebello, California, played collegiately at Loyola University in Los Angeles (now Loyola Marymount). Grote made a splash in his first year of eligibility, averaging 14.2 points and 6.7 rebounds per game and winning West Coast Athletic Conference player of the year honors as a sophomore. He followed that up by averaging 12.6 points and 4.9 rebounds and leading the Lions to the 1961 WCAC title. In Grote's senior year, he averaged 13 points per game and was named second team All-WCAC. Arthur Grote (29 November 1814 – 4 December 1886) was an English colonial administrator. Life He was born on 29 November 1814 at Beckenham in Kent, England. He was the son of George Grote (1760–1830), a London banker, and Selina Peckwell (1775-1845) who was the daughter of the Rev. Dr Henry Peckwell (1747-1787) and Bella Blosset of Co. Meath, from a well-connected Huguenot family. An elder brother George Grote (1794–1871) became a distinguished politician and historian of Greece, and another brother John Grote was a moral philosopher at Cambridge. He was educated at Haileybury College, and entered the Bengal Civil Service in 1834, where as a civil servant he was employed in Bengal from 1834 to 1868 and was commissioner and member of the Board of Revenue, Calcutta, 1861–8. Jerry Grote
Gerald Wayne Grote (October 6, 1942 – April 7, 2024) was an American professional baseball catcher. He played in Major League Baseball from 1963 through 1981 for the Houston Colt .45s, New York Mets, Los Angeles Dodgers, and Kansas City Royals. After playing for Houston from 1963 to 1964, Grote played for the Mets from 1966 to 1977. With the Mets, he was a two-time All-Star player and was a member of the team that became known as the Miracle Mets for their upset victory over the Baltimore Orioles in the 1969 World Series. He finished his career with the Dodgers in 1977 and 1978 and the Royals and Dodgers in 1981. Grote was considered to be one of the best defensive catchers of his era. Grote Hutcheson (April 1, 1862 – December 14, 1948) was an officer of the U.S. Army from 1884 to 1924. After graduating from USMA in 1884, Hutcheson participated in the Pine Ridge Campaign. During the Spanish–American War, he was Adjutant General of the Puerto Rican Campaign. From 1899 to 1990, Hutcheson participated in the China Relief Expedition in which he received two Silver Star Commendations. From 1901 to 1902, Hutcheson was secretary to the Military Governor of the Philippines. He was then judge advocate of the Department of the East in Governor's Island, New York. From 1904 to 1908 Hutcheson was on the General Staff, serving in the office of Chief of Staff. From 1908 to 1910 and 1915 to 1916, Hutcheson was on the Mexican border. Baron Otto Grote zu Schauen (25 December 1636 O.S. / 4 January 1637 N.S. – 5/15 September 1693) was a Hanoverian statesman. His correspondence with Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz is now part of UNESCO’s Memory of the World Programme. Life He was born in Sønderborg (Duchy of Schleswig), and came from a noble lineage. After the Thirty Years' War, he studied at the University of Helmstedt and the University of Leiden and then went traveling. Kurt Grote
Kurt David Grote (born August 3, 1973) is an American former competition swimmer and Olympic gold medalist. Grote competed internationally in the breaststroke events during the 1990s. Grote did not start swimming until the age of fifteen. He began swimming under the advice of a doctor to improve his asthma condition. He attended Stanford University, where he was a member of the Stanford Cardinal swimming and diving team. He also trained with and competed for the Santa Clara Swim Club. After his swimming career, he married a woman named Amy and completed his MD at Stanford. He has gone on to become a partner in McKinsey & Company's Healthcare Payor and Provider practice. Grote competed in the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta, Georgia. Klaus Grote (born 12 September 1947) is a German archaeologist and was director of the archaeological section of the Landkreis Göttingen until his retirement in 2012. Grote studied archaeology re- and proto-historyat Göttingen University, writing his master's thesis on the Mesolithic in the southern Lower Saxony hill country. His doctorate from Hamburg University on prehistoric settlement usage of the abris in the Buntsandsteingebiet near Göttingen was completed in 1994. John Grote
John Grote (5 May 1813, Beckenham – 21 August 1866, Trumpington, Cambridgeshire) was an English moral philosopher and Anglican clergyman. Life and career The son of a banker, John Grote was younger brother to the historian, philosopher and reformer George Grote. He was educated at Beckenham School, Kent. He then went up to Trinity College, Cambridge, in 1831, graduating with a first-class degree in the Classics Tripos in 1835, and became a fellow of Trinity in 1837. From 1847 until his death, he was vicar of Trumpington, where he was a neighbour of his close friend Robert Leslie Ellis, the paralysed mathematician and Bacon scholar. In 1855, Grote succeeded William Whewell as Knightbridge professor of moral philosophy at Cambridge University. Jason Robert Grote (born 1973) is an American Anglican bishop. He was consecrated in 2025 as coadjutor bishop of the Diocese of the Central States in the Reformed Episcopal Church and the Anglican Church in North America. Biography Grote was born in 1973 to Royal and Ellen Grote. His father was a Reformed Episcopal priest who later became bishop of the Diocese of Mid-America and eventually presiding bishop of the REC. Grote was raised in Pennsylvania and New Jersey. He began his career as a bank teller and in bookkeeping, including in the Houston, Texas, area, where his father had moved to plant REC churches. In the mid-1990s, he experienced a call to ordained ministry and received his theological education at Reformed Episcopal Seminary.
