Grenå Municipality
Until 1 January 2007, Grenaa municipality or Grenå municipality was a municipality ( Danish, '' kommune'') in Aarhus County on the east coast of the Jutland peninsula in central Denmark. The municipality covered an area of 196 km2, and had a total population of 18,641 (2005). Its last mayor was Gert Schou, a member of the Social Democrats (Socialdemokraterne) political party. The municipality's main city and the site of its municipal council was the town of Grenaa. The municipality was located on the east coast of the peninsula known as ''Djursland'', with the waters of the Kattegat to the east, defining the municipality's eastern border. Grenaa municipality ceased to exist due to ''Kommunalreformen'' ("The Municipality Reform" of 2007). Djursland
Djursland () is a 1,417 km2 hilly lowland peninsula in Denmark at the entrance to the Baltic Sea, between Denmark and Sweden in Northern Europe. Djursland protrudes into the Kattegat sea, as part of the larger peninsula of Jutland, which itself extends from the Central European continent. Djursland comprises the two municipalities of Norddjurs Municipality, Norddjurs and Syddjurs. The only larger city on Djursland is Grenå, but both Randers and Aarhus are close-by. Agriculture and fishing has been the mainstay of the rural culture here for millennia. Norddjurs Municipality () is a municipality (Danish language, Danish, ''Commune (subnational entity), kommune'') in Region Midtjylland in Denmark. It covers an area of 721.2 km² and has a population of 36,658 (1. January 2025). Sønderhald Municipality
Until 1 January 2007 Sønderhald municipality was a municipality (Danish, '' kommune'') in the former Aarhus County in the eastern part of the Jutland peninsula ( Djurs) in central Denmark. It covered an area of 138 km2, and had a total population of 8.503 (2005). Its last mayor was Kirsten Wyrtz, a member of the Social Democrats (Socialdemokraterne) political party. The site of its municipal council was Auning. Other towns in the municipality were Assentoft, Uggelhuse, and Øster Alling. Kattegat
The Kattegat (; ; ) is a sea area bounded by the peninsula of Jutland in the west, the Danish straits islands of Denmark and the Baltic Sea to the south and the Swedish provinces of Bohuslän, Västergötland, Halland and Scania in Sweden in the east. The Baltic Sea drains into the Kattegat through the Danish straits. The sea area is a continuation of the Skagerrak and may be seen as a bay of the North Sea and North Atlantic Ocean, though this is not the case in traditional Scandinavian usage. The Kattegat is a rather shallow sea and can be dangerous to navigate due to many sandy, stony reefs and the tricky shifting currents. In modern times, artificial seabed channels have been dug, many reefs have been dredged either by sand pumping or boulder clearance, and a well-developed light signaling network has been installed to protect the heavy international traffic on this small sea. Grenaa
Grenaa (or Grenå) is a Danish town and seaport on the east coast of the Jutland peninsula. Tourism, education and commerce are important sectors in the economy of Grenaa. It is the only larger town on Djursland. Grenaa is the municipal seat, and the largest town, in Norddjurs Municipality, which covers the northern half of Djursland. History Grenaa was first mentioned in 1231. It was granted the official Kong-certified status of a market town in 1445.
