Great Britain At The 2019 European Games
Great Britain competed at the 2019 European Games, in Minsk, Belarus from 21 to 30 June 2019. It won 6 gold medals, 9 silver medals and 8 bronze medals, totalling 23 medals and placing 9th on the medals table. When it had previously competed at the 2015 European Games in Baku, Azerbaijan, it won 47 medals, including 18 golds. Before the Games Team GB announced the athletes selected to represent Great Britain on the 21 May 2019 adding the selection of archers on the 24 May. With swimming (Great Britain's most successful sport in 2015) being removed from the Games program and the decision not to take part in the athletics competition, the team chosen was significantly smaller than that which made the journey to Baku in 2015. The British Olympic Association (BOA; ) is the National Olympic Committee for the United Kingdom. Patrick Huston (born 5 January 1996) is a British two-time Olympian archer from Belfast, Northern Ireland. He captured three world championship titles under the youth level, and eventually competed as a member of the two person archery squad of Team GB at the 2016 Summer Olympics, in Rio, losing the first round match to the eventual champion Ku Bon-chan of South Korea. In the Tokyo 2020 Olympics his best result was a men's team 5th. Huston currently lives near Lilleshall National Sporting Centre and trained full-time under senior national coach Richard Priestman for Archery UK, while remaining a loyal founding member of East Belfast Archery Club. Jessica Anne Roberts (born 11 April 1999) is a British cyclist, who currently rides for UCI Women's Continental Team . She was part of the Great Britain squad which won gold in the team pursuit at the 2024 UCI Track Cycling World Championships in Ballerup, Denmark. Later at the event, she won silver in the omnium. Lauren Smith (badminton)
Lauren Smith (born 26 September 1991) is an English badminton player. She competed for England in the women's doubles and mixed team events at the 2014 Commonwealth Games where she won a bronze and silver medal respectively. In 2016, she represented Great Britain at the Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Teamed-up with Gabby Adcock, she won the women's doubles gold medals at the English National Badminton Championships in 2013 and 2014. In 2015 and 2016, she also won the women's doubles title partnered with Heather Olver. Smith qualified to represent Great Britain at the 2019 European Games, played in the women's doubles with Chloe Birch and in the mixed doubles with Marcus Ellis.
