Gray Matters (record Label)
Gray Matters is an imprint record label structured underneath the Nettwerk Music Group. The label was founded in 2007 by Jars of Clay band members Dan Haseltine, Stephen Mason, Matt Odmark, and Charlie Lowell. The creation of the label was in response to the band's record contract's ending with Essential Records, and the band's desiring to control their music output. The label will be distributed by Provident/Integrity Distribution (as was Essential Records) to the Christian and mainstream markets. The band had been with Nettwerk under their management division since 2003. As of now, Jars of Clay and Disappointed by Candy are the only acts signed to the record label. The first Gray Matters release will be a Disappointed by Candy album, followed by the Jars of Clay's Christmas album, ''Christmas Songs'', due to be released on October 16, 2007. Essential Records is a contemporary Christian music, contemporary Christian record label based in Franklin, Tennessee. It is a division of the major label Sony Music Nashville. ''Christmas Songs'' is the eighth studio album and first Christmas album from Jars of Clay, that was released on October 16, 2007, through Gray Matters/Nettwerk. This is the first ever release from the band through their newly created Gray Matters imprint via Nettwerk Music Group. Background In 2006, Jars of Clay began to seek a new recording contract as their then-current contract with Sony BMG's Christian sub-label Essential Records was due to end a few releases later. Nettwerk
Nettwerk Music Group is an independent record label founded in 1984. The Vancouver-based company was created by principals Terry McBride and Mark Jowett as a record label to distribute recordings by the band Moev, but the label expanded in Canada and internationally. Initially specializing in electronic music including alternative dance and industrial, the label expanded its roster to include pop, rock and numerous singer-songwriters in the late 1980s and 1990s.
