San Simeone Piccolo
San Simeone Piccolo (also called San Simeone e Giuda) is a church in the sestiere of Santa Croce in Venice, northern Italy. From across the Grand Canal it faces the railroad terminal serving as entrypoint for most visitors to the city. History Built in 1718–38 by Giovanni Antonio Scalfarotto, the church shows the emerging eclecticism of Neoclassical architecture. It accumulates academic architectural quotations, much like the contemporaneous Karlskirche in Vienna. Wittkower, in his monograph, acknowledges San Simeone is modeled on the Pantheon with a temple-front pronaos, on the other hand, the peaked dome recalls Longhena's more embellished and prominent Santa Maria della Salute church. The centralized circular church design and the metal dome recalls Byzantine models and San Marco, though the numerous centrifugal chapels are characteristic of Post-Tridentine churches. Palazzo Calbo Crotta is a palace in Venice, located in the Cannaregio district and overlooking the Grand Canal, near the Scalzi bridge. History Palazzo Calbo Crotta dates back to the 14th century, when it was built to be the home of the Calbo family, and was remodeled several times over the following centuries, assuming its current appearance in the 17th century. In the 18th century, the palace passed to the Crotta family, that changed the interiors, embellishing them with works of art and furniture. Currently in good condition, the building houses a hotel. San Simeone Profeta, also known as San Simeone Grande is a church in the sestiere of Santa Croce in Venice, Italy. The adjective ''Grande'' distinguishes this church from the San Simeone Piccolo, which was smaller in size until its 18th-century reconstruction. The vaporetto is a Venetian public waterbus. There are 19 scheduled lines that serve locales within Venice, and travel between Venice and nearby islands, such as Murano, Burano, and Lido. The name, ''vaporetto'', could be translated as "little steamer", and refers to similarly purposed ships in the past that were run by steam. The natives call the vaporetto batèlo or vaporino. The waterbus line is operated by Azienda del Consorzio Trasporti Veneziano (Actv), the Venetian public transport system. The vaporetto is necessary in Venice as deep canals prohibit building underground railways, and there is no space for overground trains, leaving the canals as the only viable rapid transport system. Ponte Degli Scalzi
The Ponte degli Scalzi (or Ponte dei Scalsi, in Venetian; literally, "bridge of the barefoot onks), is one of only four bridges in Venice to span the Grand Canal. The bridge connects the sestieri of Santa Croce and Cannaregio. On the north side, Cannaregio, are the Chiesa degli Scalzi (Church of the Barefoot or Discalced Monks) and the Santa Lucia (Ferrovia) railway station. The south side is the sestiere of Santa Croce. Designed by Eugenio Miozzi, it was completed in 1934, replacing an Austrian iron bridge. It is a stone arch bridge. Santa Maria di Nazareth is a Roman Catholic Carmelite church in Venice, northern Italy. It is also called Church of the Scalzi () being the seat in the city of the Discalced Carmelites religious order ( in Italian means 'barefoot'). Located in the sestiere of Cannaregio, near Venezia Santa Lucia railway station, it was built in the mid-17th century to the designs of Baldassarre Longhena and completed in the last decades of that century. Exterior The facade in Venetian Late Baroque style, was financed by the aristocrat Gerolamo Cavazza, and erected by Giuseppe Sardi, from 1672 to 1680.
