Grand Austrian State Prize For Visual Arts
The Grand Austrian State Prize () is a decoration given annually by Austria to an artist for exceptional work. The recipient must be an Austrian citizen with a permanent residence in Austria. It was originally created in 1950 by then education minister Felix Hurdes. The prize is given according to the recommendation by the Austrian Art Senate without a set rotation schedule for literature, music, visual art, or architecture. Since 2003 it has been endowed with a 30,000 euro prize. Franz Karl Ginzkey
Franz Karl Ginzkey (8 September 1871, Pola, Austrian Littoral, Austria-Hungary (now Pula, Croatia) – 11 April 1963, Vienna) was an Austro-Hungarian (then Austrian) officer, poet and writer. His arguably most famous book ''Hatschi Bratschis Luftballon'' (''Hatschi Bratschi's Balloon'') captivated generations of children. Life Ginzkey, son of a Bohemian German professional officer of the Austrian Navy, was in the imperial army until 1897. Friedrich Heer
Friedrich Heer (10 April 191618 September 1983) was an Austrian historian born in Vienna. Early life Heer received a PhD at the University of Vienna in 1938. Even as a student, he came into conflict with pan-German historians as a staunch opponent of National Socialism. He was arrested for the first time on 11 March 1938 by the Austrian Nazis. He founded a small Catholic resistance group and sought to amalgamate into one organised band the Christians, communists and trade unionists against the Nazis. As a soldier, he later came into contact with the resistance group "Soldatenrat". Career From 1946 to 1961, he was the editor of the weekly magazine ''Die Furche'' he Furrow and in 1961, he was appointed chief literacy to the Vienna Burgtheater. Christine Lavant
Christine Lavant (born Christine Thonhauser, mar. Christine Habernig; 4 July 1915 – 7 June 1973) was an Austrian poet and novelist. Life Lavant was born in the hamlet of Großedling (today part of Wolfsberg, Carinthia, Wolfsberg) in the Lavanttal, Lavant Valley, Carinthia (state), Carinthia, the ninth child of a poor miner's family. Later she adopted the name of the valley as her pseudonym. The newborn had Tuberculous cervical lymphadenitis, scrofula of the breast, neck and face, and nearly went blind. From the age of three, the child at regular intervals contracted pneumonia and physicians treated her as nonviable; nevertheless she was enrolled in primary school (''Volksschule'') in 1921. Ingeborg Bachmann
Ingeborg Bachmann (; 25 June 1926 – 17 October 1973) was an Austrian poet and author. She is regarded as one of the major voices of German-language literature in the 20th century. Fritz Hochwälder (28 May 1911 – 21 October 1986) also known as Fritz Hochwaelder, was an Austrian playwright. Known for his spare prose and strong moralist themes, Hochwälder won several literary awards, including the Grand Austrian State Prize for Literature in 1966. Johannes Urzidil (3 February 1896 in Prague – 2 November 1970 in Rome) was a German-Bohemian writer, poet and historian. His father was a German Bohemian and his mother was Jewish. Life Urzidil was educated in Prague, studying German, art history, and Slavic languages before turning to journalism and writing. His initial efforts in poetry were influenced by Expressionism, and were published under the pseudonym Hans Elmar. He also worked as a writer and editor of the monthly journal '' Der Mensch''.
