Gozlin, Count Of Bidgau And Methingau
Gozlin (c. 911 – between 19 October 942 and 16 February 943), was count of the Ardennes and the Bidgau, and army commander for his brother, Adalbero I of Metz. Gozlin was a son of Count Palatine Wigeric of Lotharingia and Cunigunda of France. In 930, he married Oda of Metz (905 – 10 April 963), a daughter of Count Gerard of Metz and Oda of Saxony. Through her mother Oda was a cousin of King Henry the Fowler of East Francia (Germany). Gozlin and Oda had the following children: *Reginar, count of Bastogne (d. 18 April 963). Ardennes
The Ardennes (french: Ardenne ; nl, Ardennen ; german: Ardennen; wa, Årdene ; lb, Ardennen ), also known as the Ardennes Forest or Forest of Ardennes, is a region of extensive forests, rough terrain, rolling hills and ridges primarily in Belgium and Luxembourg, extending into Germany and France. Adalberon (bishop Of Laon)
Adalberon, or Ascelin (died July 19, 1030/1031), was a French bishop and poet. He was a son of Reginar of Bastogne, and a nephew of Adalberon, Archbishop of Reims. He studied at Reims and was in the chapter of Metz Cathedral. He became bishop of Laon in 977. The chronicler Richer of Rheims reports an accusation of 977 against him of adultery, with Queen Emma of Italy. Emma's son Louis V of France removed him from Laon in 981. When Laon was taken by Charles, Duke of Lower Lorraine, in 988, Adalberon was put into prison, whence he escaped and sought the protection of Hugh Capet, king of France. Adalbero (French ''Adalbéron''; died 23 January 989) was the archbishop of Reims, chancellor of Kings Lothair and Louis V of France. Biography Nearing the end of the rule of Carolingian dynasty over West Francia, Archbishop Adalbero and Queen Emma led a political party in favor of the Franks allying with the Ottonian dynasty of the Holy Roman Empire in the Frankish courts. In a series of letters sent to Empress Theophanu, Emma's sister-in-law, Adalbero expressed loyalty on behalf of himself, Queen Emma, and her son King Louis V (Adalbero's lord at the time).
