The government agencies in Sweden are state-controlled organizations that act independently to carry out the policies of the Government of Sweden. The ministries are relatively small and merely policy-making organizations, allowed to monitor the agencies and preparing decision and policy papers for the government as a collective body to decide upon. A Cabinet Minister is explicitly prohibited from interfering with the day-to-day operation in an agency or the outcome in individual cases. The cardinal rule is that Ministers are not allowed to issue orders to agencies in their portfolio personally (with only a few exceptions) as the government agencies are subject to decisions made by the government, although the government cannot even directly overrule an agency in the handling of an individual case. The Swedish Maritime Administration () is the government agency in Sweden which provides services to the transport sector by keeping the sea lanes open and safe. The agency is to a certain degree financed through fees levied on commercial shipping. The main services of the Maritime Administration include: pilotage, maintenance of marine fairways, ice-breaking, hydrographics, maritime search and rescue, seamen's service. The Swedish Civil Aviation Administration () is a Swedish government agency which regulated and oversaw all aspects of aviation in Sweden until 2005. Svenska kraftnät is an electricity transmission system operator in Sweden. It is current led by director-general Per Eckemark since 2025. It is a state-owned public utility, which was created in 1992 by splitting the former government agency Vattenfall into a power generation and distribution company Vattenfall AB and a transmission company Svenska kraftnät. The company has its headquarters in Sundbyberg, near Stockholm in Sweden. Svenska kraftnät owns and manages 17500 km of power lines, 175 transformer - and switching stations as well as foreign connections with both alternating and direct current. Svenska kraftnät owns 28% of Nord Pool along with other Nordic and Baltic transmission system operators.
