Gotham City ( ), or simply Gotham, is a fictional city in the Northeastern United States that serves as the primary city appearing in American comic books published by DC Comics. It is best known as the home of the superhero Batman and his List of Batman supporting characters#Bat-Family, allies and List of Batman family enemies, foes. Created by writer Bill Finger and artist Bob Kane, the city was first identified as Batman's place of residence in ''Batman (comic book), Batman'' #4 (December 1940) and has since been the primary setting for stories featuring the character. "Gotham City" is a song by American R&B singer R. Kelly based on the fictional city of the same name. It was featured on the soundtrack to the film '' Batman & Robin'', and it reached number nine on both the US ''Billboard'' Hot 100 and Hot R&B Singles charts. In Europe, the song peaked within the top 10 in Germany, Hungary, the Netherlands, Sweden, Switzerland and the UK, and within the top 20 in Iceland, Ireland and Scotland. The music video for the song was directed by Hype Williams. A remix version for the song was released featuring rapper Strings with a video also directed by Williams. Gotham City is a themed area based on Gotham City at several amusement parks around the world. First opening at Six Flags Magic Mountain in 1994, the themed area has since expanded into multiple Six Flags amusement parks and Warner Bros. World Abu Dhabi.
