''Goin' Fishin is a 1940 American ''Our Gang'' comedy short film directed by Edward Cahn (director), Edward Cahn. It was the 191st ''Our Gang'' short to be released. Plot Hoping to get an early start on a fishing trip to the East River, the gang boards a double-decker bus at the crack of dawn. Alas, the kids' bulky fishing equipment causes nothing but discomfort for the rest of the passengers, to say nothing of the irascible bus conductor. Thanks to the gang's unintentional interference, the bus' regular pick-up and drop-off schedule is thoroughly disrupted, and even worse, it turns out that the kids are on the wrong bus. Edward L. Cahn (February 12, 1899 – August 25, 1963) was an American film director and editor. Early life and education Cahn was born in Brooklyn, New York City, New York. He went to work at Universal Pictures in 1917 while still a student at University of California, Los Angeles, UCLA. Career He is best known for directing ''Our Gang'' comedies from 1939 to 1943, and a long line of other short subjects and B-movies afterward. He is also known for directing the 1958 film ''It! The Terror from Beyond Space'', the film that inspired the 1979 film ''Alien (film), Alien''. Benjamin Joseph Hall (March 18, 1899 – May 20, 1985) was an American actor who started performing as a boy and worked for three and a half decades, mainly in small parts. Biography Born in Brooklyn, New York as the eldest child of American stevedore George E. Hall and his English wife Constance L. Fletcher, Ben Hall began making appearances in films when he was little more than ten years old. After a handful of movies, his family moved to Weehawken, New Jersey, and in 1918 Ben took work as a bank clerk in Manhattan. Arthur Hoyt (March 19, 1874 – January 4, 1953) was an American film character actor who appeared in more than 275 films in his 34-year film career, about a third of them silent films. Career Born in Georgetown, Colorado, in 1874, Hoyt made his Broadway debut in 1905 in ''The Prince Consort''. He also appeared in Ferenc Molnár's '' The Devil'' in 1908, and made his final Broadway appearance in ''The Great Name'' in 1911.
