Godlike (Thy Art Is Murder Album)
''Godlike'' is the sixth studio album by Australian deathcore band Thy Art Is Murder. Originally scheduled for release on 15 September 2023, the album was released on 22 September 2023 through the band's independent label Human Warfare and was produced by Will Putney. ''Godlike'' is the band's first album without longtime vocalist Chris "CJ" McMahon, who was fired by the band one day before the album release. It is also the band's first album with new vocalist Tyler Miller, whose vocals were retracked for the album after McMahon's ouster. The initial CD and vinyl copies of the album, released in 2023, have McMahon's vocals intact—but streaming and later physical releases instead feature Miller's vocals. Background and promotion On 7 April 2022, Thy Art Is Murder announced that they are beginning to record the new album. Thy Art Is Murder is an Australian deathcore band from Blacktown, Sydney, that formed in 2006. The band consists of vocalist Tyler Miller, guitarists Sean Delander and Andy Marsh, bassist Kevin Butler and drummer Jesse Beahler. Thy Art Is Murder has released six studio albums since formation. Their 2008 EP ''Infinite Death'', reached position no. 10 on the AIR Charts upon release, and their second full-length album ''Hate (Thy Art Is Murder album), Hate'' debuted at no. 35 on the ARIA Charts, making them the first extreme metal band to ever reach the Top 40 of this chart. Deathcore is an extreme metal subgenre that combines death metal with metalcore. The genre consists of death metal guitar riffs, blast beats, and metalcore Breakdown (music)#Heavy metal and punk rock, breakdowns. Will Putney
Will Putney (born May 29, 1983) is an American record producer and musician based in New Jersey. He is the guitarist and co-founder of deathcore band Fit for an Autopsy, as well as the guitarist of metalcore supergroup End, and hardcore punk supergroup Better Lovers. Early life Putney grew up in Sayreville, New Jersey. He began playing guitar as a teenager and formed his first band when he was 15. He studied biomedical engineering at the Stevens Institute of Technology. Career Producing Putney's music production career began when he met the producer Machine while interning at The Syndicate, a marketing music management and radio promotion company that shared the same building with Machine's studio, the Machine Shop. In 2007, he began working at the Machine Shop studio in Hoboken, New Jersey. ''Human Target'' is the fifth studio album by Australian deathcore band Thy Art Is Murder. The album was released on 26 July 2019 through Nuclear Blast and the band's independent label Human Warfare. It is the band's first album with drummer Jesse Beahler following the departure of Lee Stanton, and the last album with vocalist Chris "CJ" McMahon, who was fired by the band in September 2023. Background Andy Marsh, who wrote lyrics for several of the album's songs, named "politics, privatized prisons, environment and the planet, human organ harvesting, the pharmaceutical industry" as key topics.
