Glidden is a hamlet in the Rural Municipality of Newcombe No. 260, Saskatchewan, Canada. In 2001 the community had a population of 40 people. It previously held the status of village until October 19, 2000. The hamlet is about south of the town of Kindersley at the intersection of Highways 21, 44, and 649. History Glidden is named after Charles Glidden (an immigrant from Paw Paw, Michigan) who sold the townsite to the Canadian Pacific Railway. Prior to October 19, 2000, Glidden was incorporated as a village, and was restructured as a hamlet under the jurisdiction of the RM of Newcombe No. 260 on that date. Glidden, a railroad promoter, or in honor of Joseph Farwell Glidden, the inventor of barbed wire. Geography According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of , all land. Glidden, Texas
Glidden is an unincorporated community and census-designated place (CDP) in Colorado County, Texas, United States. As of the 2010 census it had a population of 661. It lies just north of Interstate 10 and to the west of Columbus. History Located along the main line of the Southern Pacific Railroad, the town site was originally established by the Galveston, Harrisburg and San Antonio Railway in 1885. The post office was opened three years later, and the town served as a major railroad maintenance facility stop between Houston and El Paso. The community flourished during the Spanish–American War and the two world wars. Shortly after, the railroad movement from steam engines to those operating with diesel and electric rendered most of the railroad maintenance shops in Glidden obsolete. This caused the population to decrease to 150 residents by the late 1940s. Between January 1911 and April 1912, a series of ax murders occurred in Texas and Louisiana, claiming 49 victims. Glid ... Glidden (also Chippewa Crossing) is an unincorporated census-designated place in the town of Jacobs in Ashland County, Wisconsin, United States. It is located on County Highway N near Wisconsin Highway 13. As of the 2020 census, its population was 437, down from 507 at the 2010 census. History The community is named after Charles R. Glidden, a founder of the Wisconsin Central Railroad, along which it is located. Marion Park Pavilion was built in 1938 during the depression and is listed in the National Register of Historic Places. In 1963, a , Black Bear was hunted in the Glidden area. The town immediately took on the title of "Black Bear Capital of the World", and many local businesses made "Black Bear" a part of their name. Glidden is an American paint brand, manufactured by PPG Industries. Glidden was purchased by British Conglomerate (company), conglomerate Imperial Chemical Industries, ICI in 1986, which in turn was later acquired by Dutch conglomerate AkzoNobel in 2008. PPG Industries announced an agreement to acquire Glidden from AkzoNobel for $1.05 billion on December 14, 2012. The transaction closed April 1, 2013. Following the deal, PPG will be the second largest paint manufacturer in North America, behind Sherwin-Williams.
