Glâne (river)
Glâne (; ) is a river in Switzerland that crosses part of the Canton of Fribourg. It is a tributary of the Sarine and a sub-tributary of the Rhine river. The Neirigue and the Glèbe are its two largest tributaries. The river gave its name to the surrounding Glâne district of the canton. The Glâne has its source in the town of Siviriez, then heads northeast becoming the border between the municipalities of Mézières, Romont, Villaz-Saint-Pierre, Villorsonnens and La Folliaz. It then continues east and northeast through the Sarine district where it borders the municipalities of Chénens, Autigny, Farvagny, Cottens, Neyruz and Matran, finally joining the Sarine River on the border between Villars-sur-Glâne and Hauterive. The river has powered several mills and sawmills throughout history. In addition, during the nineteenth century public baths were built north of Romont. Bad Iburg
Bad Iburg (; Westphalian: ''Bad Ibig'') is a spa town in the district of Osnabrück, in Lower Saxony, Germany. It is situated in the Teutoburg Forest, 16 km south of Osnabrück, and the Hermannsweg long-distance hiking trail passes through it. Bad Iburg is also the name of a municipality which includes the town and four outlying centres: Glane, Ostenfelde, Sentrup and Visbeck. The most important building is Schloss Iburg above the town. It is a complex of a castle which was the residence of the bishops of Osnabrück for six hundred years and a former monastery of the Order of Saint Benedict. Oradour-sur-Glane (commune)
Oradour-sur-Glane (; ) is a commune in the Haute-Vienne department, Nouvelle-Aquitaine, west central France, as well as the name of the main village within the commune. The original village of Oradour-sur-Glane is widely known for having been destroyed and its inhabitants massacred, by Nazi Germany in World War II — and subsequently left in its destroyed state as a memorial. History Before World War II, Oradour-sur-Glane was a quiet, rural community. The original village was destroyed on 10 June 1944, four days after D-Day, when 643 of its inhabitants, including 247 children, were massacred by a company of troops belonging to the 2nd SS Panzer Division ''Das Reich'', a Waffen-SS unit of the military forces of Nazi Germany in World War II.
