''Gizmo Mantra'' is the fifth studio album released by Australian rock group Boom Crash Opera. The album was released in November 1997. Reception Kelvin Hayes from All Music said; "It takes a while to warm up to, and it is a patchy thing even then, but ''Gizmo'' is possibly their best work since '' These Here Are Crazy Times'' in 1989. Peter Farnan is up to his usual oddball but inventive best on "Don't Forget to Breathe" and the excellent "Welcome to Tomorrow." Former writing partner Richard Pleasance Richard Arnold Pleasance is an Australian rock musician and producer. He was a founding member of Boom Crash Opera on guitar, bass guitar, vocals and as a songwriter in 1985; they released three albums before Pleasance left in 1992. Pop Rock
Pop rock (also typeset as pop/rock) is a fusion genre with an emphasis on professional songwriting and recording craft, and less emphasis on attitude than rock music. Alternative rock (also known as alternative music, alt-rock or simply alternative) is a category of rock music that evolved from the independent music underground of the 1970s. Alternative rock acts achieved mainstream success in the 1990s with the likes of the grunge, shoegaze, and Britpop subgenres in the United States and United Kingdom, respectively. During this period, many record labels were looking for "alternatives", as many corporate rock, hard rock, and glam metal acts from the 1980s were beginning to grow stale throughout the music industry. Gotham Records
Gotham Records was an American record label formed by Sam Goode (Goody) and Ivin Ballen in New York City in 1946. In January 1948 Ballen acquired the interest of Goode and became the sole owner. He then moved the company to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania where the label was based for the rest of its existence until 1956. The label specialized in rhythm and blues. Ivin Ballen died in Miami Beach, Florida, in February 1978. Bertelsmann Music Group (BMG) was a division of a German media company Bertelsmann before its completion of sale of the majority of its assets to Sony Corporation of America on 1 October 2008. ''Born'' is the fourth studio album released by Australian rock group Boom Crash Opera. The album was released in February 1995 and peaked at number 37 on the ARIA Charts. Reception Australian music journalist Ian McFarlane declared the album as a "tougher affair which found the band embracing hi-tech pop, techno-metal and all manner of sound effects and cyberpunk studio trickery". Kelvin Hayes from All Music said; "With Richard Pleasance gone, the job of creative director fell to BCO's other figurehead, Peter Farnan. While Farnan is a highly resourceful writer, his scrappy production skills take the band into more experimental waters. The intro cliché of the crying baby is naff as the vapid synth sound, yet "Essence" is still engaging. ''These Here Are Crazy Times!'' is the second studio album by Australian rock group Boom Crash Opera, released in October 1989. The album was the breakthrough album to the lucrative U.S. Market for the band & was released in the United States by Giant records. This release had 2 new reworked versions of the songs "Talk About It" and "The Best Thing". Both songs were re-recorded with producer Jimmy Iovine of U2 fame, after Bono from U2 became a fan of the band during the U2 Love Town tour of Australia in 1989. Richard Pleasance
Richard Arnold Pleasance is an Australian rock musician and producer. He was a founding member of Boom Crash Opera on guitar, bass guitar, vocals and as a songwriter in 1985; they released three albums before Pleasance left in 1992. Their hit Australian Recording Industry Association (ARIA) singles, "Great Wall" (No. 5, 1986) and "Onion Skin" (No. 11, 1989) were co-written by Pleasance, who also co-produced their second album, ''These Here Are Crazy Times'' (No. 10, 1989). His debut solo release, ''Galleon'' received four nominations at the ARIA Music Awards for 1992. Pleasance composed the theme music for Australian television series, '' SeaChange'' (1998–2001), for 2006 feature film ''Kenny'' and more recently he composed the theme music for the prison drama series '' Wentworth''.
