Give Up
''Give Up'' is the only studio album by American electronic duo the Postal Service, released on February 18, 2003, by Sub Pop Records. The Postal Service was a collaboration between singer-songwriter Ben Gibbard, best-known for his work with indie rock band Death Cab for Cutie, and musician Jimmy Tamborello, who also records under the name Dntel. Gibbard rose to prominence in the early 2000s as frontman of Death Cab, while Tamborello gained a cult following as a pioneer of contemporary glitch music and electronica. The two first collaborated with the song "(This Is) The Dream of Evan and Chan", for Dntel's debut LP, '' Life Is Full of Possibilities'' (2001). The album is a long-distance collaboration between Gibbard, who lived in Seattle, Washington, and Tamborello, who resided in Los Angeles, California. The Postal Service
The Postal Service was an American indie pop group from Seattle, Seattle, Washington, consisting of singer Ben Gibbard, producer Dntel, Jimmy Tamborello (also known by his stage name, Dntel), and Jenny Lewis on background vocals. The band released their sole studio album, ''Give Up'', in 2003 on Sub Pop, Sub Pop Records, to mostly positive reviews. The album reached number 45 on the US Billboard 200, ''Billboard'' 200 album chart and received platinum certification from the Recording Industry Association of America. The group decided to disband two years later, viewing attempts at a follow-up as unnecessary. ''Life Is Full of Possibilities'' is the third studio album by American electronic music producer Dntel. It was released on October 30, 2001 by Plug Research. "(This Is) The Dream of Evan and Chan", a collaboration with Ben Gibbard of Death Cab for Cutie, was released as a single on August 6, 2002. Dntel would collaborate with Gibbard again for an entire album, ''Give Up'', released in 2003 under the name The Postal Service. The song "Life Is Full of Possibilities" includes a repeating sample of Bloop, a sound of undetermined origin. A two-disc remastered deluxe edition of ''Life Is Full of Possibilities'' was released on October 24, 2011 by Sub Pop, which featured four additional songs not included on the initial release, along with remixed versions of other songs from the album. Figurine (band)
Figurine is an American electronic music group. The band members, friends since high school, use the pseudonyms David Figurine (Forster David Rudolph), James Figurine ( James Tamborello) and Meredith Figurine (Meredith Landman). While the band seems to be inactive , all three members are also involved in other bands or have released solo work under their respective Figurine monikers. Mainly a long distance collaboration, the band was a precursor to James Figurine/Tamborello's later, more commercially successful project The Postal Service. Tamborello has also used the Figurine pseudonym for an official remix of Bright Eyes' '' Easy/Lucky/Free'' in 2005 and a solo album in 2006. Meredith is also a vocalist for Boothby. Electropop is a popular music fusion genre combining elements of the electronic and pop styles. It has been described as a variant of synth-pop with emphasis on a hard electronic sound. The Jealous Sound
The Jealous Sound was an American band based in Los Angeles that, as of August 2012, consisted of vocalist and guitarist Blair Shehan (formerly of Knapsack), guitarist Michael Richardson, bassist Jeremy Tappero, and drummer Bob Penn. In 2012, Richardson (formerly of the American three-piece rock band, The New Trust) replaced original member, Pedro Benito (formerly of Sunday's Best) on lead guitar. Benito has moved into film and television score composition. Glitch is a genre of experimental electronic music that emerged in the 1990s, which is distinguished by the deliberate use of glitches in audio media and other sonic artifacts. The sounds featured in glitch tracks usually come from audio recording device or digital electronics malfunctions, such as CD skipping, electric hum, digital or analog distortion, circuit bending, bit-rate reduction, hardware noise, software bugs, computer crashes, vinyl record hiss or scratches, and system errors, as well as abstract sound design produced from the intended use of these technologies. Chris Walla
Christopher Ryan Walla (born November 2, 1975) is an American musician, record producer, and film music composer, best known for being a former guitarist and songwriter for the band Death Cab for Cutie. Musical career Early bands While at Bothell High School in the early 1990s, Walla started a program called Open Microphone with creative writing teacher Laura Drumheller, as a noon-time forum for the arts, which allowed any student to take the stage and perform. Walla regularly performed at these shows, as well as serving as MC. One performance by Walla included a song by Talking Heads. These early Open Microphone shows proved popular and continued for over twenty years, moving from Bothell High School to Inglemoor High School when teacher Drumheller transferred there. Jennifer Diane Lewis (born January 8, 1976) is an American singer-songwriter, musician, and actress. She is the lead singer, rhythm guitarist, and keyboardist for the indie rock band Rilo Kiley. Lewis gained prominence in the 1980s as a child actress, appearing in the films ''Troop Beverly Hills'' (1989) and ''The Wizard (1989 film), The Wizard'' (1989) and the television series ''Brooklyn Bridge (TV series), Brooklyn Bridge'' (1991–93). Jennifer "Jen" Wood (born c. 1976) is an American indie rock musician based in Seattle, Washington. A solo artist since 1996, she was previously a member of alternative rock band Tattle Tale. Biography In 1992, at the age of fifteen, Wood formed Tattle Tale with school friend Madigan Shive. The band released two albums, ''Tattle Tale'' in 1993 and ''Sew True'' in 1995. Their song "Glass Vase Cello Case" featured in the 1999 film ''But I'm a Cheerleader'' by Jamie Babbit. In 1996, after the breakup of Tattle Tale, Wood went to Santa Cruz, California and recorded a number of songs which she released as ''No More Wading''. After recording ''Getting Past the Static'', she moved back to Seattle.
