Giuseppe 'Pino' Cerami
Giuseppe "Pino" Cerami (28 April 1922 – 20 September 2014) was a Belgian road bicycle racer. He joined the professional peloton in 1946 as an independent. Born in Misterbianco, Sicily, Italy he was naturalised as a Belgian on 16 March 1956. Cerami won the 1960 Paris–Roubaix Classic with Tino Sabbadini of France second and Miguel Poblet of Spain in third place. Cerami also won La Flèche Wallonne Classic in 1960. He was 3rd in the 1960 World Championship Road Race behind Rik Van Looy of Belgium and Frenchman André Darrigade. At the 1963 Tour de France, Cerami won the 9th stage at 41 years old; Cerami is the oldest Tour de France stage winner ever. Since 1964 the Grand Prix Pino Cerami professional cycling race has taken place every year in Belgium. Cerami died on 20 September 2014 after a long illness. Misterbianco (; ) is a ''comune'' (municipality) in the Metropolitan City of Catania in the Italian region of Sicily, located about west of Catania and about southeast of Palermo. 1960 UCI Road World Championships
The 1960 UCI Road World Championships was the 33rd edition of the UCI Road World Championships. It took place on from 13 to 14 August 1960 on the Sachsenring for the two men's races, and in Leipzig for the women's race, in East Germany. It was the only time that the Cycling World Championships were organized in the German Democratic Republic. The road race among professional cyclists (279.3 km or 32 rounds) was won by the Belgian Rik Van Looy, who defeated last year's world champion André Darrigade in a group sprint. In the 61.1 km women's race, Britain's Beryl Burton won. East German Bernhard Eckstein became world amateur champion after a race of 174.6 km (20 rounds). Egmont Cycling Race
Egmont Cycling Race is a single-day road bicycle race held annually in August in Zottegem, Belgium. Since 2005, the race is organized as a 1.1 event on the UCI Europe Tour. The race started out as 'Dokter Tistaertprijs' in 1934. Between 1971 and 1998 it was called 'Herinneringsprijs Dokter Tistaert – Prijs Groot-Zottegem'. In 1999 it changed to 'G.P. Zottegem – Tistaertprijs'. In 2002 'Tistaertprijs' disappeared in the name. It was called GP Stad Zottegem until 2020. Since 2020 the organization continued under the name 'Egmont Cycling Race'. André Darrigade (born 24 April 1929) is a retired French professional road bicycle racer between 1951 and 1966. Darrigade, a road sprinter won the 1959 World Championship and 22 stages of the Tour de France. Henri "Rik" Van Looy (20 December 1933 – 17 December 2024) was a Belgian professional Cycle sport, cyclist of the post-World War II, war period. Nicknamed the ''King of the Classics'' or ''Emperor of Herentals'' (after the small Belgian city where he lived), he dominated the classic cycle races in the late 1950s and early 1960s. Miguel Poblet
Miguel Poblet Orriols (18 March 1928 – 6 April 2013) was a Spanish professional cyclist, who had over 200 professional victories from 1944 to 1962. He was the first Spanish rider to wear the yellow jersey in the Tour de France, and in 1956 he became the first of only three riders to win stages in the three Grand Tours in the same year. (The other two are Pierino Baffi and Alessandro Petacchi.) He won the Milan–San Remo classic race on two occasions and took 26 stage wins in the three Grand Tours. His twenty-stage wins in the Giro d'Italia makes him the third most successful foreign rider in the "Giro" behind Eddy Merckx (25) and Roger De Vlaeminck (22).
