Giles Smith
Giles Smith (born 1962 in Colchester, Essex) is a British journalist for ''The Times''. In 1998 he was named Sports Columnist of the Year. He attended Colchester Royal Grammar School. Smith was one of the members of a band called Orphans Of Babylon with Geoff Lawrence who in 1983 produced the cassette ''Pinch Me - I Think I'm In Kent'', which was recorded and Produced by their friend, Dave Hoser at Future Studios in Chelmsford. The tracks were edited (there were over 200 edits) and mastered at Octopus Studio by Dave. The album was remastered by Dave Hoser in 2014. In 1986 Giles joined the Dumb Mermaids for a one-off concert at the Quay Theatre Sudbury. Smith's career in journalism began when he joined ''The Daily Telegraph'' in 1990 after a spell as one half of the 1980s band The Cleaners From Venus with Martin Newell. Giles Smith (born November 28, 1991) is an American competitive swimmer who specializes in the butterfly and freestyle events. He currently represents the DC Trident which is part of the International Swimming League. Early life Giles Smith was born November 28, 1991, in Baltimore, Maryland as the son of Harold and Marcia Smith. He attended McDonogh School. Smith swam collegiately at the University of Tennessee for a year and then transferred to the University of Arizona to continue his college career from 2012 to 2014. College career During his freshman year with the Volunteers, Smith was a member of the 200 and 800-yard freestyle relays at the 2011 Men's NCAA Division I Championships and earned All-American Honors. At the 2012 Men's NCAA Division I Championships as a sophomore, Smith placed second in the 100-yard butterfly and 14th in the 100-yard freestyle. Giles Alexander Smith
Giles Alexander Smith (September 29, 1829 – November 8, 1876), was a general in the Union Army during the American Civil War. Biography Smith was born in Jefferson County, New York. When he was 18, he moved to southwestern Ohio, and for a decade engaged in business in Cincinnati. In the late 1850s, he moved to Bloomington, Illinois, where he was proprietor of a hotel. At the beginning of the Civil War, he joined the 8th Missouri Infantry Regiment (Union), 8th Missouri Infantry Regiment, in which he became a Captain (United States O-3), captain. Gilbern, ''Gilbern Sports Cars (Components) Ltd '', was a Welsh car manufacturer from 1959 to 1973, based in Llantwit Fardre, Pontypridd, Glamorgan, Wales. History Gilbern Sports Cars (Components) Ltd was founded by Giles Smith (previously a butcher, who died in 2003) and Bernard Friese, a German engineer with experience in glass fibre mouldings, and was one of the few cars to be made in Wales. Friese had made a one-off car for himself and the two partners used this as the basis for the first Gilbern car. The premises were a tiny workshop in Church Village, Pontypridd but when production started the business moved to a new location at the old Red Ash Colliery at nearby Llantwit Fardre. The cars were available at first only as kits but later complete cars were also available.
