Ghosts Of The Abyss
''Ghosts of the Abyss'' (also known as ''Titanic 3D: Ghosts of the Abyss'') is a 2003 American Documentary film, documentary film produced by Walden Media. It was directed by James Cameron after his 1997 film ''Titanic (1997 film), Titanic''. During August and September 2001, Cameron and a group of scientists staged an expedition to the wreck of the RMS Titanic, wreck of the RMS ''Titanic''. They dived in Russian deep submersibles to obtain more detailed images than anyone had before. Using two small, purpose-built remotely operated underwater vehicle, remotely operated vehicles, the documentary offers glimpses into the ''Titanic'' wreck and, with Computer-generated imagery, CGI, superimposes the ship's original appearance on the deep-dive images. Robert Hichens (RMS Titanic)
Robert Hichens (16 September 1882 – 23 September 1940) was a British sailor who was part of the deck crew on board the when she sank on her maiden voyage on 15 April 1912. He was one of seven quartermasters on board the vessel and was at the ship's wheel when the ''Titanic'' struck the iceberg. He was in charge of Lifeboat No. 6, where he refused to return to rescue people from the water due to fear of the boat being sucked into the ocean with the huge suction created by the ''Titanic'', or swamped by other floating passengers. According to several accounts of those on the boat, including Margaret Brown, who argued with him throughout the early morning, Lifeboat 6 did not return to save other passengers from the waters. Ken Marschall (born October 28, 1950) is an American painter and illustrator notable for his paintings of famous ocean liners, such as the , , and , and other transportation vessels including the '' Bismarck'', ''LZ 127 Graf Zeppelin'' and ''LZ 129 Hindenburg''. His paintings have been used in many books about the ''Titanic'', most notably his depictions of the sinking, of which no photographs that could be used were taken. In 1992, Marschall co-authored the book ''Titanic: An Illustrated History'' with Don Lynch. This book later served as the blueprint for the movie Titanic. Thomas Andrews Jr. (7 February 1873 – 15 April 1912) was a British businessman and shipbuilder, who was managing director and head of the drafting department of the shipbuilding company Harland and Wolff in Belfast, Ireland. Don Lynch
Don Lynch is a historian with the Titanic Historical Society. He co-authored the book ''Titanic: An Illustrated History'' in 1992 with Ken Marschall and later co-authored ''Ghosts of the Abyss''. Lynch has an extensive collection of Titanic memorabilia and even more extensive knowledge of the subject, having researched the RMS ''Titanic'' along with Marschall since the early 1970s. His research includes interviews with survivors of the maritime disaster and dives to the ''Titanic'' shipwreck at the bottom of the Atlantic Ocean. RV ''Akademik Mstislav Keldysh'' () is a 6,240 ton Russian scientific research vessel. It has made over 50 voyages, and is best known as the support vessel of the ''Mir'' submersibles. The vessel is owned by the Shirshov Institute of Oceanology of the Russian Academy of Sciences in Moscow, and is homeported in Kaliningrad on the Baltic Sea.
