''GhostbustersII'' is a 1989 American Supernatural fiction, supernatural comedy film directed by Ivan Reitman and written by Dan Aykroyd and Harold Ramis. The film stars Bill Murray, Aykroyd, Sigourney Weaver, Ramis, Rick Moranis, Ernie Hudson, and Annie Potts. It is the sequel to the 1984 film ''Ghostbusters'' and the second film in the Ghostbusters (franchise), ''Ghostbusters'' franchise. Set five years after the events of the first film, the Ghostbusters have been sued and put out of business after the destruction caused during their battle with the deity Gozer the Gozerian. When a new paranormal threat emerges, the Ghostbusters reunite to combat it and save the world. After the success of ''Ghostbusters'', Columbia Pictures wanted a sequel but struggled to overcome objections from the cast and crew. Ivan Reitman
Ivan Reitman (; October 27, 1946 – February 12, 2022) was a Canadian film director and producer. He was known for his comedy films, especially in the 1980s and 1990s. Reitman was the owner of The Montecito Picture Company, founded in 1998. Films he directed include ''Meatballs (film), Meatballs'' (1979), ''Stripes (film), Stripes'' (1981), ''Ghostbusters'' (1984), ''Twins (1988 film), Twins'' (1988), ''Ghostbusters II'' (1989), ''Kindergarten Cop'' (1990), ''Dave (film), Dave'' (1993), ''Junior (1994 film), Junior'' (1994) and ''Draft Day'' (2014). The ''Ghostbusters'' franchise consists of American supernatural fiction, supernatural Comedy film, comedies, based on an original concept created by Dan Aykroyd and Harold Ramis in 1984.
