''U-36'' (S186) is a Type 212 submarine, Type 212A submarine of the German Navy. She is the sixth ship of the class to enter service. She was laid down in August 2008 by Howaldtswerke, Kiel, launched in February 2013 and commissioned on 10 October 2016. She is under the patronage of the town of Plauen, in Saxony. Type 212 Submarine
The Type 212A is a class of diesel-electric attack submarine developed by Howaldtswerke-Deutsche Werft AG (HDW) for the German Navy (), and the Italian Navy where it is known as the ''Todaro'' class. It features diesel propulsion and an additional air-independent propulsion (AIP) system using Siemens proton-exchange membrane (PEM) compressed hydrogen fuel cells. The submarines can operate at high speed on diesel power or switch to the AIP system for silent slow cruising, staying submerged for up to three weeks with little exhaust heat. The system is also said to be vibration-free and virtually undetectable. The Type 212 is the first fuel cell propulsion system equipped submarine series. Jan Christian Kaack (born 24 December 1962) is a ''Vizeadmiral'' of the German Navy and as of March 11th, 2022 Inspector of the Navy. Service Kaack joined the navy in October 1979 and was initially assigned as a navigator to ''7. Schnellbootgeschwader''. He began officer training at the Naval Academy Mürwik, Flensburg in October 1983, graduating in September 1984. ''Einsatzflottille 1'' (EinsFltl 1 or EF 1) is one of the three brigade-level units of the German Navy, in addition to '' Einsatzflottille 2'' and the Naval Air Command. Thomas Losse-Müller (born 3 April 1973) is a German politician. He is a member of the Social Democratic Party of Germany and former Leader of his Party in the Landtag of Schleswig-Holstein. Rainer Maria Brinkmann (born 3 March 1958) is a ''Vizeadmiral'' of the German Navy, and the current Deputy Inspector of the Navy. He previously served in fast attack craft units, and in staff positions, and has a degree in education from the University of the Bundeswehr Hamburg. Military career Brinkmann joined the German Navy as an enlisted member in 1976, serving on the deck crew of ships in the 7th Fast Attack Squadron (''7. Inspector Of The Navy
The Inspector of the Navy () is the commander of the Navy of the modern-day German Armed Forces, the Bundeswehr. Since the various bodies responsible for the high command of the German Navy were merged in 2012, the Inspector has been based at the Navy Command at Rostock. Before then, the Inspector was head of the Naval Staff of the Ministry of Defence, based in Bonn. Both the Inspector and his deputy hold the rank of vice admiral ().
