George Van Den Bergh
George van den Bergh (25 April 1890 in Oss – 3 October 1966 in Oegstgeest) was a Dutch law professor and amateur astronomer. Van den Bergh was the son of Samuel van den Bergh, one of the founders of Unilever. His brother Sidney James and his nephew Maarten would follow his father in business life, while George pursued an academic career. He was a lawyer in Amsterdam, 1915–1936. From 1925–33 he was a member of the House of Representatives of the Netherlands. He was author of ''Aarde en wereld in ruimte en tijd: Een uiteenzetting voor iedereen'' (1935) which was translated into English in 1937 as ''The Universe in Space and Time'' (U.K. edition) and ''Astronomy for the Millions'' (U.S. edition). Etty Hillesum (''An Interrupted Life'') mentions that he was arrested and detained by the Nazis in 1941. He survived the war. In the book, author Dr. George van den Bergh made several propositions for a more economical arrangement of type in books. Van Den Bergh (crater)
Van den Bergh is an eroded lunar impact crater that is located on the far side of the Moon. It lies just to the east of the larger crater Cockcroft. To the north is Evershed. Since its formation, this crater has been heavily worn by subsequent impacts until its features have become softened and rounded. The satellite crater Van den Bergh M lies across the southern rim, and there is a depression from an old impact in the northwestern part of the interior floor. Several small craterlets lie along the rim to the east and west. This crater lies within the path of the ray system from the crater Jackson to the south-southwest. Lunar Eclipse
A lunar eclipse is an astronomical event that occurs when the Moon moves into the Earth's shadow, causing the Moon to be darkened. Such an alignment occurs during an eclipse season, approximately every six months, during the full moon phase, when the Moon's orbital plane is closest to Ecliptic, the plane of the Earth's orbit. Oegstgeest () is a town and municipality in the province of South Holland in the western Netherlands. Its population was in . Etymology The portion ''geest'' in the name refers to the Geest, geest lands, which were excavated in the seventeenth century for the benefit of the urban expansion of Leiden. There exists more uncertainty about the 'Oegst' part. There are various stories. The name was formerly often spelled Oestgeest or Oostgeest, which could indicate the geographical location of the village: east of the geest lands. However, the oldest spelling found in a copy of a list of goods of the St. Martin's Cathedral, Utrecht, St. Martin's Cathedral in Utrecht from the tenth century states Osgeresgeest. This could indicate an original resident and owner of the territory: Osger.
