George And Junior
''George and Junior'' are cartoon characters, two anthropomorphic bears created by Tex Avery for Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer. All of the George and Junior shorts were directed by Tex Avery in the 1940s. They appeared in four cartoons: ''Henpecked Hoboes'' (1946), ''Hound Hunters'' (1947), ''Red Hot Rangers'' (1947), and ''Half-Pint Pygmy'' (1948). History The cartoons would usually follow the misadventures of two bears inspired by George and Lennie from John Steinbeck's ''Of Mice and Men'': George, the short, short-tempered, intelligent one (voiced by Dick Nelson) and Junior, the tall, dim-witted, strong one (voiced by Tex Avery). Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Cartoon Studio
The Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer cartoon studio (also commonly referred to as MGM Cartoons) was an American animation studio operated by Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer during the Golden Age of American animation. Active from 1937 until 1957, the studio was responsible for producing animated shorts to accompany MGM feature films in Loew's Theaters, which included popular cartoon characters '' Tom'', '' Jerry'', ''Droopy'', '' Butch'', '' Spike'', '' Tyke'', and '' Barney Bear''. Prior to forming its own cartoon studio, MGM released the work of independent animation producer Ub Iwerks, and later the '' Happy Harmonies'' series from Hugh Harman and Rudolf Ising. Don Markstein's Toonopedia
Don Markstein's Toonopedia (subtitled A Vast Repository of Toonological Knowledge) is an online encyclopedia of print cartoons, comic strips and animation, initiated February 13, 2001. Donald D. Markstein, the sole writer and editor of Toonopedia, termed it "the world's first hypertext encyclopedia of toons" and stated, "The basic idea is to cover the entire spectrum of American cartoonery." Markstein began the project during 1999 with several earlier titles: he changed Don's Cartoon Encyberpedia (1999) to Don Markstein's Cartoonopedia (2000) after learning the word "Encyberpedia" had been trademarked. During 2001, he settled on his final title, noting, "Decided (after thinking about it for several weeks) to change the name of the site to Don Markstein's Toonopedia, rather than Cartoonopedia. ''Of Fox and Hounds'' is a 1940 Warner Bros. ''Merrie Melodies'' directed by Tex Avery. The short was released on December 7, 1940, and introduces Willoughby the Dog. Avery performed the voice of Willoughby, and Mel Blanc voiced George the Fox and the bear's yells. The short is an attempt to duplicate the success of the 1940 Bugs Bunny short ''A Wild Hare'' by giving another anthropomorphic animal the same unflappable demeanor. The names of Tex Avery, Dave Monohan, Carl W. Stalling, and possibly Charles McKimson intentionally draft numbers in the credits. Plot The film focuses on a sly fox, George, and a lovable but dim-witted hound, Willoughby, who repeatedly asks George where the fox went, never suspecting that his "friend" George is the fox. ''Fiesta'' is a 1947 American Technicolor musical film, musical drama film directed by Richard Thorpe and starring Esther Williams, Ricardo Montalbán, Mary Astor and Cyd Charisse.
