George Reed (Canadian Football)
George Robert Reed, CM, SOM (born October 2, 1939), is a former American college football and Canadian Football League player. Reed, along with Mike Pringle and Johnny Bright, is one of the players most often mentioned as being the greatest running back in CFL history. In November 2006, Reed was voted one of the CFL's Top 50 players (#2) of the league's modern era by Canadian sports network TSN. Reed played his entire 13-year professional football career for the CFL Saskatchewan Roughriders and his #34 jersey is one of eight that has been retired by the club. His daughter Georgette represented Canada in the 1992 Summer Olympics in the shot put competition. George Reed (cricketer)
George Henry Reed (8 August 1906 – 11 December 1988) was a Welsh cricketer. Reed was a right-handed batsman who bowls left-arm fast-medium. He was born at St Fagans, Glamorgan. Reed made his first-class debut for Glamorgan against Lancashire in the 1934 County Championship. He made 24 further first-class appearances for the county, the last of which came against Sussex in the 1938 County Championship. Seen by some at Glamorgan as a potential long-term replacement for fast bowler Jack Mercer, Reed took 62 wickets at an average of 31.30, with best figures of 5/30. George McCullagh Reed
George McCullagh Reed (1831 – 13 November 1898) was a New Zealand presbyterian minister, journalist and newspaper proprietor. Reed was born in County Monaghan, Ireland in about 1831. He received his education from Queen's College, Belfast, from where he graduated in 1856. He was ordained as a Presbyterian minister and went to France, Switzerland, and in 1857 to Victoria in Australia. From 1861, he was minister in Ipswich, Queensland, and it was there that he married Jessie Chalmers Ranken on 6 July 1863. He resigned from the ministry in 1866. Reed was elected to the second Legislative Assembly of Queensland for the district of Ipswich in a ministerial by-election on 4 August 1866 and held this seat until the end of the parliamentary term on 19 June 1867. He set up, bought, or edited many newspapers. He set up the ''Evening Star'' in Auckland in 1870. George Walker Bush (born July 6, 1946) is an American politician who served as the 43rd president of the United States from 2001 to 2009. George Reed (musician)
George Reed Wilbourn (September 2, 1922 – October 9, 2011) was an American jazz drummer and singer who performed as George Reed. Life and works Reed was born in 1922 in Mount Hope, West Virginia, United States. He grew up in Harlem, New York, near the Savoy Ballroom. His early mentors included the Count Basie musicians Jo Jones and Freddie Green. In the course of his career, he played with Charlie Parker, Red Allen, Marian McPartland, Joe Venuti, Buddy Tate and Bertha Hope. In 1970, he toured Europe in the all-star formation Saints & Sinners with Vic Dickenson and Red Richards. In his later years, Reed performed as a percussionist and singer with the swing and dance band Lindy Hop Heaven. He often appeared at the Green Pastures jazz club in Elmira where he has lived since 1990 and was a mentor for younger jazz musicians.
