George Alexander Malcolm
General George Alexander Malcolm, CB (21 January 1810 – 2 June 1888), was a British Army officer. He served in the First Opium War and became the first Chief Secretary for Administration, Colonial Secretary of British Hong Kong, Hong Kong in 1843. Career Malcolm was born in Bombay, India, on 21 January 1810. His father, Major-General Sir John Malcolm, was Governor of Bombay. His mother, Isabella Charlotte, was daughter of Lieutenant-General Sir Sir Alexander Campbell, 1st Baronet, Alexander Campbell. In 1841, Malcolm sailed to China as Secretary of Legation with Plenipotentiary Henry Pottinger during the First Opium War, First Anglo-Chinese War. On 29 August 1842, British and Chinese officials signed the Treaty of Nanking, which ended the war and ceded Hong Kong to Britain. George Malcolm (Indian Army Officer)
General Sir George Malcolm (10 September 1818 – August 1897) was an officer in the Bombay Army and British East India Company. Early life He was born at Bombay on 10 September 1818, was the only son of David Malcolm, a Bombay merchant, who was the brother of Admiral Sir Pulteney and General Sir John Malcolm. He was educated at Blundell's School in Tiverton, the University of Edinburgh and at Addiscombe Military Seminary. Military career He was commissioned into the East India Company on 10 June 1836, and was posted to the 1st Bombay Native Infantry on 18 July 1837. He served in the First Anglo-Afghan War, as deputy-assistant commissary-general and baggage-master with the Bombay division, and was present at the battle of Ghazni and occupation of Kabul. George Malcolm (politician)
George John Huntley Malcolm (August 20, 1865–August 18, 1930) was a politician in Manitoba, Canada. He served in the Legislative Assembly of Manitoba as a Liberal from 1909 to 1922, and was a cabinet minister in the government of Tobias Norris. Malcolm was born in Kussowlie, India, the son of British colonel George Malcolm. He was educated at King Edward VI school in Sherbourne, England, and moved to Canada in 1882. After attending the Guelph Agricultural College in Ontario for two years, he moved to Manitoba in 1885. He worked as a farmer, and served as Secretary-Treasurer of the Birtle Agricultural Society. Malcolm was also a school trustee. He was married twice: first to Janet T. Winter in 1891 and then to Adelaide G. Barnes in 1902 following the death of his first wife. George John Malcolm Commander of the Order of the British Empire, CBE Order of St. Gregory the Great, KSG (28 February 191710 October 1997) was an English pianist, organist, composer, harpsichordist, and conductor. Malcolm's first instrument was the piano, and his first teacher was a nun who recognised his talent and recommended him to the Royal College of Music at the age of seven, where he studied under Kathleen McQuitty FRCM until he was 19.
