Sir George Clark, 1st Baronet
Sir George Smith Clark, 1st Baronet, Deputy Lieutenant, DL (8 November 1861 – 23 March 1935) was a businessman and politician in Northern Ireland. George S. Clark was born in Paisley, Renfrewshire, Paisley, Scotland the second son of thread manufacturer James Clark, and Jane Smith; both his parents were Scottish Presbyterians. Early life Clark was educated at Merchiston Castle School, Edinburgh. He was apprenticed to Harland and Wolff in Belfast and, in 1877, opened his own shipyard on the river Lagan with Frank Workman. Clark's mother's brother, George Smith, was able to provide capital for this initial venture. In 1891 the firm became Workman, Clark and Company. During the World War I, First World War the shipyard concentrated on Admiralty (United Kingdom), Admiralty work and it was for this that, in 1917, Clark received the Clark baronets, Baronetcy of Dunlambert. George Rogers Clark (November 19, 1752 – February 13, 1818) was an American military officer and surveyor from Virginia who became the highest-ranking Patriot (American Revolution), Patriot military officer on the American frontier, northwestern frontier during the American Revolutionary War, Revolutionary War. He served as leader of the Virginia militia in Kentucky (then part of Virginia) throughout much of the war. George Clark & NEM was a leading British marine engineering business. The company was based in Sunderland and was a major employer in the area. History The company was established in 1848 by George Clark as a general engineering concern based in Sunderland. It built its first marine engine in 1854. In 1938 it was acquired by Richardsons Westgarth & Company who merged the business with ''North Eastern Marine'' ('NEM'), another engineering concern which had been founded in 1865 at South Dock in Sunderland and which they had also acquired, to form ''George Clark & NEM Ltd''. The Company built engines for many ships including the Saga Ruby. George Clark (29 June 1810 – 11 December 1874) was Archdeacon of St David's from 1867 until his death. Clark was born in the parish of St Dunstan-in-the-West and educated at University College, Oxford. He was Vicar of Cantley in Yorkshire from 1845 to 1854; and Rector of Tenby from 1854 to 1867. George Clark (British Army Officer)
Lieutenant General John George Walters Clark, (2 May 1892 – 16 May 1948) was a senior British Army officer who fought in both the First and Second World Wars. During the latter he commanded the 10th Armoured Division, formerly the 1st Cavalry Division. Early life and career Clark was educated at Winchester College (1906–1910). After passing out from the Royal Military College, Sandhurst, he was commissioned into the 16th The Queen's Lancers in September 1911 and fought with them during the First World War. He was twice mentioned in dispatches, and was awarded the Military Cross and Bar: the first award in June 1917 and the Bar in 1918. George Aitken Clark
George Aitken Clark (1823–1873) was a Scottish manufacturer and benefactor. Life He was the son of John Clark, a thread manufacturer in Paisley, where he was born on 9 August 1823. He was educated at Paisley grammar school, and in 1840 was sent the firm of Kerr & Co. of Hamilton, Ontario. On reaching manhood he returned to Paisley, and entered into partnership with Messrs. Robert and John Ronald, shawlmakers, under the name of "Ronald & Clark". In 1851 Clark gave up his partnership to go into with his brother-in-law, Robert Kerr, as a thread manufacturer. To extend the business he went in 1856 to the United States, and to avoid the tariffs the firm in 1864 established a factory at Newark, New Jersey. It was a success, and Clark's O.N.T. spool cotton soon became a recognised American brand. George Clark (producer)
George Clark was a British film producer during the silent era. For many years Clark worked with the British star Guy Newall, whom he had met during the First World War. Together they founded Lucky Cat Films and later George Clark Productions, securing a film distribution, distribution arrangement with the larger Stoll Pictures. George Clark Productions constructed Beaconsfield Studios, studio facilities at Beaconsfield in Buckinghamshire, north-west of London, which was opened in May 1922. The films made by the company were often critically acclaimed, but George Clark Productions suffered from the general downturn in the British film industry after 1922 due to the heavy competition from American film distributors. Beaconsfield Studios was sold in 1927 and the company was dissolved in 1932. By 1933 Clark was working for a film distribution company. Description The London Free School was a community action adult education project inspired by American free universities (and the Victorian Jewish Free School in Spitalfields). Colonel George Thomas Clark (26 May 1809 – 31 January 1898) was a British surgeon and engineer. He was particularly associated with the management of the Dowlais Iron Company. He was also an antiquary and historian of Glamorgan. Biography Clark was born in Chelsea, London, the eldest son of the Revd George Clark (1777–1848), chaplain to the Royal Military Asylum, Chelsea, and Clara, ''née'' Dicey. He was educated at Charterhouse School then articled to a surgeon, Sir Patrick Macgregor, in 1825 and later to George Gisborne Babington. Clark became a member of the Royal College of Surgeons in 1832. Clark opened a practice in Bristol. By the mid-1830s, Clark was in the employ of Isambard Kingdom Brunel as an engineer on the construction of the Great Western and Taff Vale Railways.
